Turkey's First Space Science Mission is Underway

Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır emphasized that Turkey's first astronaut Alper Gezeravcı is conducting groundbreaking research in the fields of medicine and engineering through Turkey's first space science studies on the International Space Station, stating: “As you know, last week we sent our first Turkish astronaut to the International Space Station as part of a science mission. Turkey's first astronaut Alper Gezeravcı is currently carrying out Turkey's first space science mission on the International Space Station. With the experiments we conduct in space, we are undertaking groundbreaking research in medicine and engineering by utilizing the unique conditions offered by the microgravity environment. By analyzing the oxygen production and carbon dioxide capture capabilities of microalgae, we are examining their potential for use in life support systems related to habitats and living opportunities beyond Earth in the future. We are opening doors for new treatment methods by studying the behavior of immune-suppressing cells in space for cancer and chronic diseases.”

The 35th summit, which was also attended by Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, concluded with a group photo session after the evaluations and discussions.
