With the aim of identifying problems within the family, which is the foundation of society, and carrying out studies for their solution, Üsküdar Üniversitesi implemented the Families at University Project, which was introduced in Gaziantep.
During the meeting held at the invitation of Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Fatma Şahin, collaboration opportunities regarding the project were discussed.
The Families at University Project, headed by Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector, Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, will also collaborate with Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality.
Project Coordinator Expert Clinical Psychologist Çiğdem Demirsoy and Project Consultant Dr. Lecturer Nebiye Yaşar, who went to Gaziantep as guests of Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Fatma Şahin, conducted inspections at municipal institutions and presented the project within the framework of the planned collaboration with Gaziantep Municipality.
In addition to Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Fatma Şahin, the meeting held at KAGİDEM - Women Entrepreneur Support Center was attended by Dr. M. Abdullah Aksoy, Head of Women, Family, Education and Social Services Department, Dr. Ramazan Özcan Yıldırım, Deputy Secretary General of the Union of Municipalities of Turkey, Serap Özpolat Çete, Mechanical Engineer and Technopark specialist, business person Filiz Evran, and Clinical Psychologist Kübra Çinkılıç, Head of Women and Family Branch.
Fatma Şahin: “Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan’s model projects are important”
Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Fatma Şahin stated that the implementation of Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan’s model projects for families in Gaziantep is important.
Çiğdem Demirsoy: “Difficulties in marriage will be taught to be turned into opportunities”
Project Coordinator Çiğdem Demirsoy stated that for a family to remain strong, marriage must be built on solid foundations, and that every period of marriage encompasses different difficulties. Demirsoy conveyed that with this project, they aim to teach how to use these difficulties as an opportunity to strengthen the family, based on the principles of positive psychology and psychotherapy.

Project Consultant Dr. Nebiye Yaşar said: “With our Families at University Project; we aimed to provide the necessary psychological maturity for individuals, who are the foundation of society, to establish healthy families and to strengthen the family. In this project, we aim to create the ‘Conscious Individual, Healthy Family, Strong Society’ model, which is based on scientific studies and includes rehabilitative activities. Within the scope of our project, we want to implement protective, preventive, developmental, and rehabilitative activities for individuals, couples, and families at all stages of the marriage and family life cycle. This project is the most important solution address in creating a healthy family structure and overcoming the fundamental problems of society.”
Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan’s books were gifted
At the end of the meeting, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan’s family-themed books were presented as a gift to Fatma Şahin.
Within the scope of project collaborations, focus group meetings were held at Gaziantep Family Support Center (GADEM) with Clinical Psychologist Kübra Çinkılıç, Head of Women and Family Branch, and her team, exchanging information on joint collaborations. Subsequently, Hz. Amine Orphan Coordination Center, affiliated with Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, was visited for inspections.
