Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Produced Many Works in the International Arena

Üsküdar University Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHS) hosted many international studies in the Spring Semester of 2022. Faculty members and students from different disciplines successfully represented Üsküdar University by participating in various international training and events. The faculty, hosting lecturers from different universities around the world, contributed to the development of mutual cooperation and friendship agreements.

Overseas experience with Erasmus+…

Research Assistant Bengi Çakmak from the FHS Department of Sociology received training at the University of Vienna in the capital of Austria between February 14-18, as part of the mobility support provided to academic staff by the Erasmus+ program.

Research Assistant Hasan Özdemir from the Psychology (English) Department joined a research group at the University of Bologna in Bologna, Italy, between May 15-20, within the scope of the same program.

Dr. Lecturer Hazal Ayas, Head of the Psychology (Turkish) Department, visited the University of Beira Interior in Portugal in March as part of the Erasmus Program. Ayas exchanged views on joint projects and participated as a guest speaker in various courses of the Psychology Department and departments within the Faculty of Sports Sciences. Additionally, Ayas met with academicians from the university's Psychology department to collaborate on joint projects and research.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alina Maria Breaz from the Faculty of Education Sciences, Psychology and Social Work at Aurel Vlaicu University of Arad in Romania visited FHS between May 23-27. Breaz, who participated in classes as a guest within the scope of Erasmus staff mobility, met with students and academic staff, and also met with Dean Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özdemir and Erasmus Coordinators.

On May 30, Prof. Dr. Richard Foltz from the Department of Religions and Cultures at Concordia University in Canada delivered a speech in English titled “Iran in World History.” Foltz's book titled “Iran: A History” was recently translated into Turkish and published by İnkılap Yayınları. Numerous academics and students attended the event held in the FHS meeting hall.

Dr. Sara Esteban Gonzalo from the Faculty of Psychology at Complutense University of Madrid in Spain gave a seminar in English titled “Mental Health Consequences of the COVID-19 Pandemic.” Numerous students and academicians attended the event held in the FHS Socrates Hall on June 1. Gonzalo, who visited Turkey for a week within the scope of Erasmus staff mobility, participated as a guest speaker in various courses in the Psychology (English) Department.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Asil Özdoğru: “The Erasmus Program is very important for student development”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Asil Özdoğru, Vice Dean of FHS and Erasmus Coordinator, stated that 8 students went to different universities in Europe to take courses in the spring semester as part of Erasmus mobility, and 13 students from various European universities came to FHS to take courses. Emphasizing that they always recommend the Erasmus program and other international opportunities to students, Özdoğru stated that such opportunities are very beneficial for students' personal and professional development.

Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özdemir: “We support the international interactions of academic staff and students”

Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özdemir, Dean of FHS, who served as the Director General of Foreign Relations at the Ministry of National Education between 2003 and 2010, also stated that they always support the international interactions of students and academic staff. He added that at the beginning of the semester, they met with international students and Erasmus students at the faculty to listen to their problems, supported international students with the “Target Friendship” program, and facilitated student and academic staff mobility with Erasmus and other programs.
