The “Üsküdar Perfusion Days – II” event was organized by the Faculty of Health Sciences of Üsküdar University. During the event, presentations prepared by final-year students of the Perfusion department as part of their graduation projects and current information about perfusion were discussed. Üsküdar University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Hikmet Koçak, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. A. Aktuğ Ertekin, and Head of the Perfusion Department Assistant Professor Dr. Zehra Akgün took part in the event as speakers.
Assistant Professor Dr. Zehra Akgün: “Perfusion days have become traditional”
Referring to the purpose of the Üsküdar Perfusion Days event, Akgün said; “The aim of this program is to present the assignments prepared by 4th-year students as part of their graduation projects and to share current information. Our goal in this event is to exchange knowledge, introduce our students to perfusionists working in the field, meet students from other universities, and provide an opportunity for friendships to be formed. Perfusion days have now become traditional at Üsküdar University. In the coming years, we want to be here with student congresses, symposiums, and panels and undertake larger organizations.”

Prof. Dr. A. Aktuğ Ertekin: “As human life extends, support for heart-related procedures will increase”
Emphasizing the great importance of such events for students, Ertekin said; “It is, of course, an inevitable fact that as human life extends, there will be a greater need for support for heart-related procedures. First of all, I would like to thank my Vice-Rector who participated, our valuable faculty members, our esteemed guests, and our very dear students. I wish success and congratulate our 4th-year students who will be making presentations. It is truly wonderful to be part of such scientific events during student years. Because I believe that many of our friends will take part in the academic community in the future and make great contributions to the advancement of knowledge, education, and culture. Thanks to everyone who supported these events.”
Prof. Dr. Hikmet Koçak: “Heart diseases have a history dating back to ancient times”
Speaking about cardiac surgery, Prof. Dr. Hikmet Koçak stated; “When talking about cardiac surgery, it's impossible not to discuss perfusion. All organs have a history, but heart diseases, in terms of illnesses, also have a history dating back to ancient times. In ancient times, the heart was considered the center of emotions and excitement by the Egyptians. It was deemed sacred in Christianity. The heart is also an organ, and it too has its diseases. The path is not always smooth, not always paved. We don't know what we will encounter. In all surgical departments, the stories are very different, exciting, and astonishing. Cardiac surgery is one of them.”
