In recent cyber fraud incidents, the phishing method has come to the forefront. Experts state that the most common method used in phishing is sending links via email, and due to clicking on the link in the email sent to them, all of a person's information is registered in the hackers' system. Dr. Ahmet Şenol advises users against the phishing method, recommending that instead of clicking on links sent to them, they should use smart mobile applications or type the relevant institution's web address into the browser themselves.

Experts warn against phishing!
Do Not Click on the Link, Use a Smart Mobile Application…
Dr. Ahmet Şenol, Head of the Department of English Computer Engineering, Cyber Security Master's Program, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences at Üsküdar Üniversitesi, shared his evaluations regarding the change in consumption habits over time with digitalization.
They Lure Into a Trap With Attractive Offers
Dr. Ahmet Şenol stated, 'Phishing is the act of directing individuals to a fake web address to ensure they enter their user code and password information, or similar confidential information, that they use when logging into a system, with the aim of obtaining that information,' and continued:
“We can say that a phishing attack is deception-focused. In the email sent, it usually aims for the person to click on the link without performing the necessary checks and confirmations, by talking about either a very attractive situation, such as ‘As one of our bank's distinguished customers, we have prepared a special consumer loan for you with no file fees. To withdraw a 140 thousand TL loan with an 8% annual interest option, please log in to our bank by clicking the link below,’ or an urgent situation. When the person clicks on the link specified in the email sent to them, they are actually redirected to another fake site that has the appearance of the website of the institution they receive service from. When the victim who clicks on the link enters their customer number and password, this information will not go to the user code and password verification system it truly belongs to, but will be registered in the cyber hacker's own database. Since the hackers have obtained the desired information, after the hourglass continues to spin for a relatively long time on the login screen of their pirated fake software, they will terminate the process with a message like “We apologize. Our bank is temporarily unable to provide service.””
We Should Type the Address Ourselves into the Web Browser…
Dr. Ahmet Şenol stated that the most common method used in phishing is to send emails to individuals and have them click on the link in the email content, positioning a fake web application at the address shown by the link. He added, “For banking, e-government, and similar systems, we should not click on links sent to us, but rather type the address ourselves into the web browser or directly use the application of the relevant system on our smartphone. The second of these two correct methods, which is directly using the institution's mobile application, will be safer.”
Caution Should Be Exercised Against Emails
Dr. Ahmet Şenol, Head of the Cyber Security Master's Program at Üsküdar Üniversitesi, concluded his remarks by warning, “We should be cautious against incoming emails and access the systems we use through our mobile applications or by typing the address ourselves, rather than by clicking on links in emails. We should look at the sender's address, not their name, in the email.”
