Expert Assesses 2024 YKS!

Ertuğrul Tut, Manager of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Education Institutions and Guidance Services, who evaluated the 2024 YKS exam, said, “In recent years, ÖSYM has standardized this situation; TYT selects students who comprehend what they read, and it is more successful for candidates who have reading habits, can think analytically, and consequently understand quickly.”

Ertuğrul Tut: “Since AYT is knowledge-based, it is easier for a candidate who has gained extensive practice with questions.”

Ertuğrul Tut, Manager of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Education Institutions and Guidance Services, evaluated the 2024 Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS), which took place in three sessions on June 8-9 and was attended by over 3 million candidates.

AYT is easier for candidates who have gained extensive practice with questions…

Ertuğrul Tut, Manager of Education Institutions and Guidance Services, reminded that as the YKS process concludes, the same questions arise every year, such as “Was the exam difficult or easy? In which branch did you struggle the most?” He said, “The most striking comment came from a candidate after the exam: ‘What AYT taught me; every question is difficult for those who don't study.’ This sentence summarizes what has been true for years. Since AYT is knowledge-based, it is easier for a candidate who has gained extensive practice with questions. It was difficult for candidates without question practice.”

Comments on TYT are quite contradictory…

Ertuğrul Tut also commented on TYT, stating, “Comments on TYT are quite contradictory; some said math was difficult, others said history and geography were difficult, or some candidates who solved last year's questions found this year's questions easier. In this situation, it's confusing what was easy and what was difficult. While comments in previous years generally converged on a common ground, this year, the comments are diversifying.”

TYT selects students who comprehend what they read

Tut stated that how this year's success ranking will be, and what difference there will be in the rankings compared to last year, will be seen together. He added, “However, there is a situation we expected and are not surprised by: in recent years, ÖSYM has standardized this situation; TYT selects students who comprehend what they read, and it is more successful for candidates who have reading habits, can think analytically, and consequently understand quickly. AYT, on the other hand, is successful for candidates who have solved more questions, have no subject deficiencies, and have a better grasp of knowledge.”

Fewer applications compared to last year…

Ertuğrul Tut, Manager of Education Institutions and Guidance Services, noted that the number of applications was lower than last year, and continued:
“ÖSYM's long-standing desire for only 12th-grade students to take the exam did not materialize this year either. Afterwards, there is no need to be a prophet to understand that this desire is not very feasible. Career choice is not made professionally. A path started with the goal of medical school can end up with engineering during the preference period. Candidates who do not know what they want or what kind of environment they desire to work in are sometimes guided to a different field by family or a guidance counselor who does not know the candidate. This situation leads to taking the exam again the following year and being unhappy in the chosen field.”

We've reached the most difficult process…

Ertuğrul Tut also stated that apart from the difficulty or ease of the exam, candidates should not forget that this is a ranking exam. He said, “We have reached the most difficult process. A bad ending to the story creates the perception that the entire story is bad. The ending is the story of career choice, finding ourselves academically in the right place. In this process, listen to yourselves very carefully, be meticulous when choosing the department for the profession you will pursue; perhaps you can compensate for the exam by making the right career choice.”
