Applied “Fire Safety Training” was provided for the students of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Vocational School of Health Services Emergency and Disaster Management Program, under the coordination of Lecturer Ayşe Aydemir Yıldırım.

Yunus Mercan, a 2020 graduate of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Emergency and Disaster Management program, returned to his alma mater to provide information about his profession as a firefighter. Meeting with first-year students and answering their questions about firefighting, Mercan shared insights about his actively ongoing profession. In the event, which saw high participation from students, detailed information was provided on firefighters' working conditions, challenges faced, professional experiences, and internship opportunities.
During the Fire Training, theoretical information on basic fire knowledge and firefighters' duties was first given. Following the theoretical training, all equipment and gear located in the Emergency and Disaster Management Program Laboratory were introduced to the students. Firefighter Yunus Mercan explained the features of the Nomex attire worn by firefighters and demonstrated how to wear it, also having students try it on practically and explaining the equipment in detail.
Fire hose deployment and collection drills were carried out at Üsküdar Üniversitesi Çarşı Campus. Following the hose deployment and collection practice, information on the use of fire extinguishers was also provided.
Lecturer Ayşe Aydemir Yıldırım emphasized the importance of initial response in fires, stating: “To prevent the fire from escalating, every building must have a fire extinguisher, and every individual should learn how to use a fire extinguisher.”
The training concluded with a souvenir photo session with the Emergency and Disaster Management Program students and instructor firefighter Yunus Mercan.
