Out of 3 million 527 thousand 443 candidates who applied for YKS this year, 898 thousand 024 candidates qualified to be placed in a higher education program. With the announcement of the placement results, the number of vacant quotas also became clear. Preference and Career Consultant Expert Psychological Counselor Ece Tözeniş pointed out that a total of 25 thousand 387 quotas remained vacant in state and foundation universities, and emphasized that this number will increase slightly with the vacant quotas that will arise after registrations. Tözeniş stressed that candidates who do not plan to take a gap year should make good use of this period, and underlined that candidates should carefully examine the guides that will be published during the additional quota and additional placement periods.
Üsküdar University Preference and Career Consultant Expert Psychological Counselor Ece Tözeniş made statements about what path successful and unsuccessful candidates should follow after the announcement of the 2023 YKS placement results.
Students should start registration procedures by getting detailed information from the universities they have won
After the YKS preferences held between July 27 and August 8, the placement results were announced. This year, 3 million 527 thousand 443 candidates took the exam. YÖK announced that the total quota for formal higher education programs, excluding open education, was 923 thousand 411. According to the placement results, the total number of placed students, excluding open education, was 898 thousand 024.
Preference and Career Consultant Expert Psychological Counselor Ece Tözeniş stated that after the placement results, successful students should start their registration procedures. She said, “They will be able to register online or in person. They can start preparing for registration by getting detailed information from the universities they have been placed in. For students who could not be placed, this is not the end of the world. They should put their disappointments aside and draw a new path for themselves regarding what they can do next and their preparations.”
Candidates should make good use of the additional quota opportunity
Tözeniş pointed out that a total of 25 thousand 387 quotas remained vacant this year in state and foundation universities after the placements, adding, “This number will increase slightly with the vacant quotas that will arise after registrations. The additional quota is actually a second chance given to candidates. Candidates who do not plan to take a gap year but could not be placed in the first placement must use this chance well. Therefore, candidates who could not be placed should carefully examine the guide published during the additional quota period and select the departments they can prefer from there.”
Candidates who decide to take a gap year should make a good plan
Tözeniş stated that students who decide to take a gap year should start studying without losing much time if they are going to prepare for the exam again. She advised, “Since the exam process will be under their control from now on, I strongly recommend that they make a good plan. It is also very important for them to follow this plan strictly without giving up. Working day by day and not breaking the routine they have established will bring success in terms of managing their time well.”
Candidates not placed in any program may qualify for additional placement
Reminding that additional placement consists of vacant quotas after the first placement and quotas left vacant because candidates who qualified for registration did not register, Preference and Career Consultant Expert Psychological Counselor Ece Tözeniş warned, “One of the basic rules here is that candidates who will make preferences in additional placement must not have been placed in any higher education program in the 2023-YKS central placement.”
Tözeniş concluded her words as follows:
“Except for medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, law, architecture, engineering, and teaching departments, which have a threshold success rank, all candidates who have a placement score will have the right to make preferences based on their scores in additional placement. Candidates should also carefully examine the guide that will be published during the additional placement period.”
