Üsküdar University Faculty of Communication Visual Communication Design Department organized an event titled “Becoming an Artist in the Game Industry”. Concept Artist and Illustrator Yağız Kani was the guest of the event, which brought together students interested in game art and illustration. Kani offered important advice to students on portfolio preparation, developing an original style, and the importance of discipline in production.

Head of Visual Communication Design Department, Prof. Dr. And Algül, and numerous students attended the event held in the Güney Campus Fuat Sezgin Conference Hall.

“A portfolio is a showcase that tells who you are”

Sharing his own works and experiences with the students, Yağız Kani emphasized the importance of portfolio preparation in one's career journey. Kani stated; “A portfolio is a showcase that tells who you are. You should present works appropriate for the position and company you are applying to. This makes you stand out from others and allows you to be original.”

“Drawing is not a talent, it's a process”

Emphasizing that drawing skill is not limited to natural talent alone, Kani stated that disciplined and analysis-oriented work is fundamental for development. Kani said; “Drawing 10 hours every day is not important; working with correct analysis is important. Everything you draw should be a stepping stone to hold onto the next step. Drawing is not a talent, it is a process.”

“Companies are looking for original production”

Kani reminded that visuals produced with artificial intelligence should not be included when preparing a portfolio. Stating that companies are becoming increasingly selective in this regard, Kani said; “Your portfolio should be your own production. AI-generated visuals do not represent you. Companies are looking for original production.”

The interview continued with a question-and-answer session.

At the end of the event, students from the Cartoon and Animation Department presented Yağız Kani with handmade stickers.

The program concluded with the presentation of a certificate of appreciation and a group photo session.
