Dr. Lecturer Kazım Dalkıran, evaluating US Secretary of State Blinken's visit to Türkiye, stated, "An announcement from Israel for a 'Humanitarian Ceasefire' can be considered an effect of the talks held in Ankara." Dalkıran also said that Türkiye's humanitarian approach has been correctly perceived, especially by Jewish communities outside Israel, and added, "It has contributed to the emergence of a stance against the Israeli administration within Israel itself. Israeli citizens will also accept that Türkiye will play a leading role for peace in the region."
United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken held a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan and his delegation in Ankara on October 5, 2023.
Dr. Lecturer and strategist Kazım Dalkıran from the Department of History, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Uskudar University, evaluated the meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan and his US counterpart Antony Blinken, who visited Türkiye.
"Türkiye's Firm and Constructive Stance Against Israel Contributed to the World Uniting Against the US and Israel"
Dalkıran stated that United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken visited Türkiye one month after the Gaza events began on October 7, and continued:
"Before this visit, his meetings with foreign ministers of regional countries, and especially his trip to Iraq, are important details. The US first realized it was on the wrong path regarding Israel's genocidal approach when it stood alone with 14 countries against 120 countries demanding a ceasefire at the United Nations General Assembly. Türkiye's firm and constructive stance, together with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and countries demonstrating a reasonable approach, against Israel's genocidal and in every respect crimes against humanity approaches, contributed to the entire world forming a bloc against the US and Israel.
The US clearly understood its approach of trying to ignore Türkiye one month later, after seeing that Israel would not achieve results, especially regarding the rescue of hostages, and when the possibility arose that its bases in regional countries might also be attacked."
He Concluded His Visit in Ankara, 'Received Coldly'
Recalling that Blinken met with the foreign ministers of Jordan, Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates in Amman, Dalkıran explained that after his meetings with Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank, he moved to the Greek Cypriot administration, from there, he first completed his visit to Iraq wearing bulletproof vests, and then concluded his visit in Ankara, 'received coldly'.
Visit's Impact on Israel's 'Humanitarian Ceasefire' Statement
Dalkıran stated, "During the visit, it is observed that the humanitarian ceasefire and especially the situation of the hostages were highlighted," and continued:
"Presenting an image of NATO countries being united in Türkiye before the G-7 meeting would create an important position for the US. The issue of Sweden's NATO membership was brought up.
An announcement from Israel for a 'Humanitarian Ceasefire' can be considered an effect of the talks held in Ankara.
Should humanitarian aid be delayed and casualties increase, the United States and Israel will suffer irreparable damage in the eyes of the entire world, and especially will no longer have the opportunity to be present in the Middle East region."
Created a Significant Advantage for Russia
Kazım Dalkıran also made an assessment from Russia's perspective, stating, "Israel's genocidal approach, supported by the United States and condoned by the West, has created a significant advantage for Russia, whose humanitarian image was damaged particularly due to the Ukraine war."
Israeli Citizens Will Also Accept that Türkiye Will Play a Leading Role for Peace in the Region
Kazım Dalkıran stated the following:
"Under Türkiye's leadership, with the participation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and neutral countries that will contribute, the possibility of establishing a long-term peace process in the region, including guarantees, based on compliance with United Nations resolutions, may emerge.
It is assessed that the necessary financial support for this matter can be provided with the contributions of regional countries within the framework of United Nations resolutions."
Dalkıran also emphasized that it is understood Türkiye can undertake important tasks and contribute to health in the region, alongside aid during a humanitarian ceasefire, stating, "Türkiye's humanitarian approach in this regard has been correctly perceived, especially by Jewish communities outside Israel, and has contributed to the emergence of a stance against the Israeli administration within Israel itself. Israeli citizens will also accept that Türkiye will play a leading role for peace in the region."
