Prof. Dr. Ebulfez Süleymanlı, Head of the Department of Sociology at Üsküdar Üniversitesi's Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Sociologist-Communication Specialist Bilge Evran, an alumnus of the Sociology Department, attended the conference titled "Digitalization and Loneliness" organized by the Youth Center of Beykoz Municipality City Council. The conference, held at Kavacık Life Center, was attended by Beykoz Municipality City Council management and volunteers, district residents, and numerous NGO representatives.

Loneliness is becoming an epidemic in modern societies!
Prof. Dr. Ebulfez Süleymanlı, Head of the Department of Sociology at Üsküdar Üniversitesi's Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, said at the beginning of his speech; “Loneliness is transforming into an epidemic in modern societies, bringing various social problems with it. As Üsküdar Üniversitesi, we have been organizing the International Loneliness Symposium for three consecutive years.”
Süleymanlı: “We need to establish healthy and sustainable communication”
Prof. Dr. Ebulfez Süleymanlı, focusing on types of loneliness, reasons for its increase, its effects on individuals and societies, loneliness during the pandemic, and the effects of technology on loneliness in his speech, stated; “Loneliness can be debilitating not only psychologically but also physically for humans, who are defined as social beings. To cope with this feeling, we need to establish healthy and sustainable communication with the society, group, or family we live with.”

Sociologist-Communication Specialist Bilge Evran, an alumnus of the Sociology Department at Üsküdar Üniversitesi's Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, delivered a presentation titled “Metaverse and Loneliness” at the conference. Bilge Evran made predictions regarding how the concept of metaverse, which will represent a brand new era in human history and is also defined as augmented virtual reality, could change social life in the future and what risks this process entails in the context of loneliness.
