As part of the project “One Hundred New Writers for the New Century of Our Literature,” initiated in cooperation between Üsküdar University and the Directorate General of Civil Society Relations under the Ministry of Interior, a training seminar on “Conscious Digital Citizenship” was held. The seminar, organized at the schools of the İlim and Fazilet Foundation, aimed to raise awareness about individual rights in the digital age.

The program, hosted at the İlim and Fazilet Foundation schools, featured Dr. Nebiye Yaşar, Director of Üsküdar University’s Young Minds Academy Application and Research Center, and Dr. Ayhan Özşahin, Head of the Department of Family Medicine at Üsküdar University’s Faculty of Medicine.

The seminar approached the effects of the digital world on individuals and children through a multidimensional lens.

Risks faced by youth in the digital age addressed

Dr. Nebiye Yaşar delivered science-based presentations on topics such as “Digital Privacy,” “Personal Data Security,” and “Combating Cyberbullying.” She analyzed the risks young people face in the digital age and shared practical solution proposals. She also offered insights from the perspectives of child psychology and ethics, providing valuable guidance for parents and educators.

Focus on digital citizenship

Dr. Ayhan Özşahin highlighted key issues such as “Children’s Digital Rights,” “Digital Citizenship,” and “Safe Internet and Social Media Use.” His presentation emphasized the importance of protecting children’s rights in digital environments, producing responsible digital content, and fostering safe online interactions.

Emphasis on sustainable development goals

The event was directly linked to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, including:

  • Quality Education
  • Gender Equality
  • Decent Work and Economic Growth
  • Reduced Inequalities

The seminar aimed to contribute to raising awareness among youth and families to help them navigate the digital age more consciously.
