“Dentists’ Day” Held at Üsküdar University

The event, held with the participation of first and second-year students from Üsküdar University's Dentistry department and introducing dentistry, attracted significant interest. Prof. Dr. Yumuşhan Günay, Dean of Üsküdar University Faculty of Dentistry, Prof. Dr. İbrahim Berk Bellaz, Associate Dean of Faculty of Dentistry, and Dr. Lecturer Nahal Baher from the Faculty of Dentistry participated in the event held at Üsküdar University Health Campus.

Within the scope of the event, it was first explained why the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Dentistry are separate, and the eight distinct specialization areas in dentistry were discussed. During the event, attention was drawn to the fact that dental education is not solely about teeth but also about understanding the entire body, and the importance of being able to diagnose diseases other than dental issues was highlighted. It was also stated that an aesthetic perspective, manual dexterity, and practical awareness are fundamental to education in dentistry.

Prof. Dr. Yumuşhan Günay: “Please definitely inform us about our shortcomings”

Prof. Dr. Yumuşhan Günay, Dean of Üsküdar University Faculty of Dentistry, who delivered the opening speech of the event, said; “Please definitely convey your ideas, criticisms, and projects to us. We don't want applause. Being applauded is a very pleasant thing, and if we deserve it, don't withhold it, but please definitely inform us about our mistakes and shortcomings.”

Digital Dentistry Was Discussed

Prof. Dr. İbrahim Berk Bellaz, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, provided information about digital dentistry. Bellaz stated; “It reduces human errors. Computer-aided methods increase production accuracy and reduce treatment time. Intraoral measurements can be taken in 5-10 minutes. Production is carried out without human touch. The patient can see the final state of the applications in advance.”

Dr. Lecturer Nahal Baher: “Commercial concerns should not precede patient health”

Dr. Lecturer Nahal Baher from Üsküdar University Faculty of Dentistry, stating that dentistry consists of many branches, said; “Saving your own tooth is much more valuable than having a different material inserted into your jaw. You must note this in your profession. Nothing can replace your own tooth. Unfortunately, this is quite common today, but commercial concerns should never come before the patient's health. Have knowledge about software. Know the algorithm. Don't limit yourself to dentistry. Dentistry already has many branches. If our communication with the patient is good, everything is good.”

The event, which continued with visual presentations, was conducted interactively with students’ questions and answers.

The ‘Dentists’ Day’ event concluded with competitions and refreshments.
