Current developments in electroneurophysiology discussed at Erciyes University

Students of the Üsküdar University SHMYO Electroneurophysiology Program and Program Head Instructor Recep Yılmaz took part in the “Current Approaches in Electroneurophysiology Symposium” organized by Erciyes University Halil Bayraktar SHMYO.
At the symposium, held with the participation of academics and students from different universities, the clinical applications and professional development areas of electroneurophysiology were evaluated.

Current scientific approaches in electroneurophysiology were discussed
Following the opening speeches of the symposium, Prof. Füsun Ferda Erdoğan, faculty member of the Department of Neurology at Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine, gave a presentation titled “Current Approaches in Epilepsy and Pediatric EEG”, and Assoc. Prof. Bülent Tuçer, faculty member of the Department of Brain and Nerve Surgery at Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine, delivered a presentation titled “Electrophysiological Methods and Clinical Interpretation in Neuromonitoring”.
During the sessions that continued throughout the day, topics such as epilepsy and pediatric EEG, neuromonitoring, the role of ENMG in polyneuropathy and entrapment neuropathies, new approaches in EEG analysis, and electroneurophysiological assessment in sleep disorders were discussed. Additionally, evaluations were made on developments in electroneurophysiology education and the future of the technician profession.

Instructor Recep Yılmaz also gave a presentation within the scope of the symposium
Speaking in the session titled “Education and Professional Future in Electroneurophysiology” held within the scope of the symposium, Üsküdar University Electroneurophysiology Program Head Instructor Recep Yılmaz provided information on the historical development of the field, educational processes, and employment opportunities.
Yılmaz stated that electroneurophysiology is a multidisciplinary health field that plays an important role in the diagnosis of neurological diseases, monitoring treatment processes, and ensuring the safety of surgical interventions by examining the electrical activities of the nervous system. He also noted that the foundations of the field were laid in 1924 with the first human electroencephalography (EEG) recording by German psychiatrist and neurologist Hans Berger.
Yılmaz pointed out that the field continues its development today with applications such as artificial intelligence integration, long-term video EEG, and intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM), and also touched upon the scope of electroneurophysiology education. He noted that the two-year associate degree program offered in vocational schools of health services in Turkey includes basic sciences such as anatomy, physiology, and neurology, as well as applied vocational courses like EEG, EMG, PSG, and evoked potentials.
Yılmaz stated that graduates can find employment opportunities in public and private health institutions, sleep centers, clinics, and medical technology companies. He also mentioned the possibilities of continuing undergraduate education through the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS) and developing careers abroad through international certificates.

Students explored the historical and cultural richness of Cappadocia
Following the scientific program, a cultural trip to Cappadocia was organized with the participation of Üsküdar University Electroneurophysiology Program students and faculty members.
Students had the opportunity to closely experience the historical and cultural richness of the region.
The trip contributed to strengthening students' social interactions and spending time together.
