“Corona Diaries: Occupational Therapy Interventions” Program’s 15th Edition Held

Üsküdar Üniversitesi Occupational Therapy Department students, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Sevda Asqarova, held the 15th edition of the “Corona Diaries: Occupational Therapy Interventions” program. The event was moderated by Berkay Karpuz, a 4th-year student and representative of the Occupational Therapy Department. During the event, the importance and objectives of occupational therapy were discussed. 

Erg. Didehan Eskiüçtepe: “Our aim is to give an active role in life to those over 65”

Speaking on “Psychosocial support for individuals over 65 during the Covid-19 process with an occupational therapy approach for a home-based activity program,” Erg. Didehan Eskiüçtepe said: “In my project, I aimed to implement a sample activity suggestion program intended for distribution to individuals and an activity program based on two representative hourly slots. As occupational therapists, our main goal is to provide activity adaptation and ensure individuals over 65 play an active role in life.”

Erg. İrem Hayta: “We continue home-based work during the quarantine period”

Erg. İrem Hayta made evaluations on “The importance of Occupational Therapy interventions for children with hydrocephalus during the quarantine process.” Hayta, pointing out that occupational therapy interventions are effective in all life processes of children, said: “It is very important for us to be in communication with families during this process. We provide guidance in the child's entire life struggle. We support families. Problems can occur in social, school, and home environments. Home arrangements are important for directing activities. We continue home-based work during the quarantine period. We follow developmental milestones.”

Erg. Menekşe Yüksel: “Hopelessness kills young people

Erg. Menekşe Yüksel made evaluations on “Occupational therapist support to prevent increased suicide among children and young people during the Covid-19 process,” stating: “We can now see suicide cases at very young ages. If an individual cannot look at the concept of the future with hope, suicide becomes inevitable. We can do many things to help children and young people establish their future plans before reaching this point. Suicide is not the last resort; this needs to be taught. We also see factors such as economic problems, mental health disorders, anxiety about the future, religion, and media among the causes. Suicide is a serious event. Hopelessness kills young people.”

Erg. Nihan Yurdadön :“There are goals for rehabilitation in Flexor Tendon injuries”

Erg. Nihan Yurdadön, delivering her speech titled “Flexor Tendon injuries Rehabilitation process and interventions during the Covid-19 period,” said: “The aim of rehabilitation in Flexor Tendon injuries is to increase the patient's finger movements, achieve the best possible functional status, enable them to regain occupational and recreational activities, and establish independence in ADL.”

Erg. Mehmet Küçük : “Water-based activities are very beneficial” 

 Erg. Mehmet Küçük: presented on “Water-based activities with an intervention approach in children with special needs.” Küçük stated: “As a complement to special education, movement-based activities are important for individuals with special needs. Healthy participation in social life is achieved. Water-based activities have many benefits and importance. They positively affect the individual's general mood.”
