Cooperation protocol signed with ASTER Textile in Plant Biotechnology

A cooperation protocol was signed between Üsküdar Üniversitesi and ASTER Textile. The protocol, covering industrial cooperation in the field of Plant Biotechnology, was signed between Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan and ASTER Textile Chairman of the Board and General Manager İsmail Koçali.

Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, Üsküdar Üniversitesi Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Muhsin Konuk, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Molecular Biology and Genetics Lecturer Dr. Cihan Taştan, Secretary General Selçuk Uysaler, and ARGEYEP (R&D and Innovation Policies Directorate) Project Manager Meltem Bayraktar attended the protocol signing ceremony held at Üsküdar Üniversitesi Central Campus Senate Hall.

Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan: “We have taken a concrete step”

Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, expressing his thoughts on the cooperation protocol, stated: “Vocational training is only one of the university's four main duties. The second is research, in other words, R&D. Another is to inform society. The fourth is, in fact, to ensure that knowledge is transformed into a product. The knowledge produced here should not remain merely published, but should be transformed into a product through cooperation with industry. Research and development is an ecosystem; R&D cannot exist solely with the university's ecosystem without an industrial ecosystem. That is why, with this vision worldwide, technology transfer offices are always being established. The main goal in transfer offices is technology-industry transfer. We have taken a concrete step in this regard as well.”

Lecturer Dr. Cihan Taştan: “This is a first in Turkey”

Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Molecular Biology and Genetics Lecturer Dr. Cihan Taştan stated: “During this process, we specifically laid out the issues that Aster might need in an industrial environment as problems. Among these problems, the opportunity arose to develop a project that could potentially bring millions of dollars in added value to Turkey, which is a first in Turkey. Especially in such a Genetic Engineering and Biotechnological field, this will truly be a striking university-industry cooperation project.”
