Communication Veterans Gather Again in Üsküdar

The 9th International Communication Days, which will be organized this year by Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Communication, will bring together professionals working in the field of communication, as it does every year. The ninth edition of the traditional International Communication Days will take place on May 16, 17, 18, 2022. The main theme of this year's symposium was determined as "". At the symposium, which will host numerous international participants, many themes such as the global digital transformation highlighted by the pandemic, new media, and communication in the digital age will be evaluated by experts.

This year, "Communication Studies in the Digital Age" will be discussed at the 9th International Communication Days

This year's theme for the Üsküdar Üniversitesi International Communication Days, which have been held online for two years due to the pandemic, is Communication Studies in the Digital Age. The symposium, to be held on May 16-17-18, 2022, will be organized in a hybrid format, both in-person and online. In line with participants' preferences, the first one and a half days of the symposium are planned to be in-person, and the second one and a half days online. Starting with opening speeches, the symposium will conclude with invited speakers' sessions, paper presentations, and a round table discussion.

The symposium will once again host very important speakers this year

The symposium, which will feature nationally and internationally renowned invited (keynote) speakers, will last three days. Among the invited speakers are Prof. Dr. Paul Argenti from Dartmouth Üniversitesi, known for his work on corporate communication and management; Prof. Dr. Nico Carpentier from Prag Charles Üniversitesi, known for his work in communication and mass communication; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lemi Baruh from Koç Üniversitesi, known for his new media and communication studies; Dr. Maureen Ellis from Londra Üniversitesi Akademisi, known for her work in semiology, and two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Paul Salopek (Out of Eden Walk Project, National Geographic). Unfortunately, renowned communication sociologist Professor Todd Gitlin, who was among the symposium's keynote speakers, will not be able to participate due to his passing from Covid-19.

Approximately 350 academics submitted abstract papers to the symposium, a significant portion of whom are from universities in foreign countries.

The impacts of the transformation experienced during the pandemic will also be discussed

At the symposium, many different areas will be discussed, especially the global digital transformation highlighted by the impact of the pandemic, new media studies, communication in the digital age, the transformation of traditional media in the digital age, new paradigms in communication sciences, new methodological approaches in communication sciences, artificial intelligence studies and communication, cinema, television, radio/podcast, and journalism studies in the digital age, social media studies, popular culture in the digital age, visual communication design, advertising, marketing communication, public relations, art and design, crisis communication in the digital age, and health communication studies in the digital age.

The opening ceremony of the 9th International Communication Days, which also received TÜBİTAK support in the international scientific event category, will take place on May 16, 2022, at Üsküdar Üniversitesi Central Campus Nermin Tarhan Conference Hall. The opening speeches of the symposium will be delivered by Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, Üsküdar Üniversitesi Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Zelka, and Dean of the Faculty of Communication Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör, followed by a session with keynote speakers (Paul Argenti, Nico Carpentier, Lemi Baruh) moderated by Prof. Dr. Halil Nalçaoğlu, Dean of Bilgi Üniversitesi Faculty of Communication. The part of the symposium to be held at the Nermin Tarhan Conference Hall will also be broadcast live on YouTube and Üsküdar Üniversitesi TV.

After lunch, the symposium will continue with paper presentations in the halls of the Faculty of Communication building.

The session for keynote speakers participating online in the symposium will be held via Zoom on May 17, moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gül Esra Atalay, a faculty member at Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Communication. Following this, the symposium's paper presentation sessions via Zoom will take place.

The final session of the symposium will be an online/Zoom round table panel, featuring prominent figures from the industry and academia, and moderated by Prof. Dr. Süleyman İrvan, Head of the Journalism Department at Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Communication.

The symposium will conclude with the closing speech by Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör, Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Head of the Symposium Organizing Committee, delivered online/via Zoom.
