Colors can determine whether a product looks luxurious
Regarding the effect of colors on emotions, Research Assistant Kumsal Kınay said, “Colors are emotional triggers. They influence how products or brands are perceived, thus affecting consumer behavior. The colors used can determine a product’s reliability, affordability, or whether it appears luxurious. In this way, they also impact the consumer’s purchasing decision.”

Kınay said the following regarding which color triggers which emotion in the context of marketing strategy:
“Red creates a sense of urgency and excitement. It can be encouraging for impulse purchases or discounted sales. For this reason, we often see red in discount notices.
Blue evokes feelings of trust, calmness, and security. It influences consumers to feel safe in their purchasing decisions and is used by brands to convey reliability and professionalism.
Green is associated with nature, growth, and health. It typically conveys a sense of relaxation and harmony, used to appeal to eco-friendly, health-conscious, or environmentally sensitive consumers.
Yellow represents optimism, youth, and friendliness. It attracts attention, encourages communication, and creates a feeling of warmth, often used in discount sales or to highlight promotions.
Orange symbolizes energy, enthusiasm, and creativity. It encourages impulsive behavior and is also used to create calls to action or highlight limited-time offers.
Purple represents luxury and creativity. It is used to evoke a sense of elegance and exclusivity, influencing consumers looking for premium or high-end products.
Black conveys sophistication, power, and authority. It is generally used to create a sense of prestige and luxury by promoting a high-value perception in products or services.”

Reminding that colors guide consumer behavior by influencing perceptions, emotions, and actions in marketing and advertising, Kumsal Kınay said, “Colors used to evoke emotions are utilized by brands to establish an strong emotional connection. Consistent use of colors ensures brand recognition. When consumers repeatedly see certain colors associated with a brand, they form a mental association, which makes it easier to recognize and remember the brand.”
Vibrant or contrasting colors encourage clicking on ads
Kumsal Kınay noted that colors can also encourage action, stating, “Vibrant or contrasting colors attract attention and encourage consumers to take actions such as making a purchase, clicking on an advertisement, or interacting with content. Colors also play an important role in defining a brand’s identity. They convey messages about the brand’s personality, values, and positioning. For example, a technology company might use blue to express reliability and innovation. Different colors can also affect consumers’ perception of a product. For instance, using red can create a sense of urgency, encouraging consumers to act quickly; while green might imply eco-friendliness or health benefits, appealing to specific consumer segments.”
Blue and green are commonly used in the healthcare sector
Kumsal Kınay stated that the strategic use of colors in advertising helps brands convey their messages, stand out in a crowded market, evoke desired emotions, and influence consumer behavior in alignment with marketing goals, noting that different sectors often prefer specific colors based on the emotions, values, and messages they want to communicate to their target audiences.
Kumsal Kınay stated that technology brands might use blue as it represents trust and innovation, and continued:
“Blue and green are also commonly used colors in the healthcare sector. These colors evoke a sense of hygiene and calmness, which are crucial in healthcare. In the food sector, we frequently see red, yellow, and orange. Red represents appetite. Yellow is attention-grabbing. Orange signifies energy. Fast food chains, in particular, often use these colors to attract consumers. Brands in the fashion and beauty sectors generally use black, white, and purple. Black represents elegance and luxury, while white symbolizes simplicity and purity.
Gold, silver, and purple tones are preferred by luxury brands
Purple is associated with creativity and luxury, making it suitable for high-end fashion and beauty brands. Green is a natural choice for brands focused on sustainability, eco-friendliness, and environmental causes. It symbolizes growth, nature, and commitment to the environment. Kumsal Kınay also stated that brands are advised to choose two main colors, adding, “In this way, consumers’ rates of recalling and retaining the brand also increase. The most effective colors that encourage consumers to buy are red, purple, and blue.”
