Üsküdar Üniversitesi Scientific Research Community (BAP) and the Directorate of Clinical and Surgical Sciences have launched the ‘Clinical Experiences Series’ and the ‘Case Analysis Series’, which are met with great interest by Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences students. The Clinical and Surgical Sciences Working Group team provides students with experience in clinical life through the events they organize. Expert names participating in these events share their knowledge and insights from their professional lives, explaining events and interesting cases that physician candidates might encounter in their careers.

At the event held in the Galenos Conference Hall of Üsküdar Üniversitesi NP Health Campus, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Yakup Tuna, Head of the Basic Sciences Department at Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Anış Arıboğan, Head of the Anesthesiology and Reanimation Department at Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Medicine, and Prof. Dr. Aptullah Haholu, Vice Dean of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Medicine and Faculty Member of the Department of Medical Pathology, shared their knowledge and experiences with future physicians.

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Yakup Tuna: “It is necessary to be curious to learn”

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Yakup Tuna, Head of the Basic Sciences Department at Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Medicine, drew attention to the importance of curiosity in the learning process. Tuna said: “Learning becomes difficult if you are not curious. First, you must be curious. When there is no discipline, work does not progress; the first rule is discipline. In the operating room, only the person performing the surgery speaks. While success is always attributed to one person, no one takes responsibility for complications. When there is no discipline, complications multiply. Discipline is always essential for success both in life and in profession.”

Prof. Dr. Anış Arıboğan: “Try to be a good general practitioner before being a good specialist”

Prof. Dr. Anış Arıboğan, Head of the Anesthesiology and Reanimation Department at Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Medicine, reminded in his speech that the first step to becoming a good specialist is through strong general practice. Arıboğan said: “A healthcare professional should assist another healthcare professional at every opportunity. A physician should never undermine another physician. A radiologist cannot mislead an internist. When I first graduated, I was always afraid of not knowing during my compulsory service. I feared, ‘A patient will come, and I will be helpless.’ Over time, I constantly stayed involved and, over the years, first became a good general practitioner and then a good specialist. You too should strive to be a good general practitioner before being a good specialist.”

Points to consider in Pathology were discussed

Prof. Dr. Aptullah Haholu, Vice Dean of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Medicine and Faculty Member of the Department of Medical Pathology, explained common errors encountered in pathology interpretation, emphasizing the points students should pay attention to in this field. Practical information on histopathological differences between healthy and unhealthy tissues was also shared at the event.
