2024-YKS registration processes were completed on August 23, 2024. In the coming days, there is another opportunity for candidates who could not be placed in any program after the initial placement: additional placement!
Specialist Psychological Counselor Ece Tözeniş emphasized that the additional placement procedures carried out by ÖSYM also take place within certain rules, stating, “If candidates who could not be placed create their preference lists within these rules, they will turn the additional placement period into an opportunity.”
Üsküdar University Preference and Career Counselor, Specialist Psychological Counselor Ece Tözeniş, announced that there is another opportunity in the coming days for candidates who could not be placed in any program after the initial placement.
There's another chance for candidates!
Ece Tözeniş stated that the 2024-YKS registration processes were completed on August 23, 2024, and said, “In the coming days, there is another opportunity for candidates who could not be placed in any program after the initial placement: additional placement! The additional placement dates have been announced by ÖSYM, and we will be able to see the quotas included in the additional placement as soon as the guide is published.”
The number of vacant quotas will increase…
Ece Tözeniş, stating that there are differences in quotas every year because additional placement quotas include both those left vacant after initial placement and after registration, continued as follows:
“In 2023-YKS, the total number of vacant undergraduate and associate degree quotas after the initial placement in only public and foundation universities was 22,291, but with the addition of students who won but did not register, this number reached 114,395 in the additional quota. If we consider that this year, as every year, there will be students who win but decide not to register at the last minute for various reasons, we anticipate that the total of 23,738 vacant quotas in undergraduate/associate degree programs in public and foundation universities in 2024-YKS will also increase.”
What are the rules for additional placement?
Tözeniş emphasized that the additional placement procedures carried out by ÖSYM also take place within certain rules, stating, “If candidates who could not be placed create their preference lists within these rules, they will turn the additional placement period into an opportunity. To be able to make a preference in additional placement, the candidate must not have been placed in any program in the 2024 central placement. Candidates who have been placed in a program cannot apply for additional placement. Unlike the initial placement, a fee will be determined by ÖSYM for additional placement, and this fee must be paid through the specified banks until the last day of application. Otherwise, the application will not be considered. Candidates will be able to make as many preferences as they wish, not exceeding 24, from the tables for which they have the right to make preferences.”
Base scores will be considered in additional placement
Ece Tözeniş noted that additional placement, unlike central placement, will be done by considering base scores rather than success rankings, and stated the following:
“Candidates who have filled quotas and whose base scores are known through central placement, but for whom quota deficits arise after registration, will be able to prefer associate and undergraduate degree programs that have a base score equal to or above the base score in the relevant program's score type. As in central placement, candidates will not be able to prefer programs above their scores in additional placement. All candidates who have an placement score will be able to prefer undergraduate and associate degree programs whose quotas were not filled and for which no base score was formed through central placement. Candidates with school first ranking will not be able to benefit from the school first ranking quota in additional placement. In additional placement, school firsts will create their preferences according to the general quota. In the quotas for martyr-veteran relatives, earthquake victims, and women over 34, candidates will create their preferences in accordance with the determined rules. The threshold ranking rule valid in Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Law, Engineering, Architecture, and Teaching programs also continues in additional placement. Candidates whose success rankings are below the determined threshold will not be able to prefer these departments in additional placement.”
How to create a correct preference list in additional placement?
Ece Tözeniş, stating that candidates who have been placed in a higher education program through a special talent exam in 2024-YKS can apply for additional placement, concluded her words as follows:
“To create a correct preference list in additional placement; since the quotas in the programs you will prefer are reduced compared to central placement, be sure to create your preference list by taking into account the quotas of the departments/programs. Making your preference list from departments with only 1-2 remaining quotas will decrease your chances of placement. Making more preferences, including the departments you want and would go to if placed, will increase your chances of placement. After the additional placement guide is published, be sure to read the special conditions and explanations section in the guide when creating your preference lists. As in central placement, if you are placed in additional placement, your OBP will be halved next year whether you register or not. You can create your preferences taking this into account. You can turn this second opportunity in your hands into a chance for yourself, it's in your hands!”
