With the support of the Turkey-Sierra Leone Friendship and Brotherhood Organization and the contributions of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, the Nevzat Tarhan Cultural Center and Müzeyyen Tarhan Mosque, the construction of which began some time ago, were opened with a ceremony held after Friday prayers. The complex will be able to host 550 people for education.
The cultural center, mosque, and Quran course, named after the Tarhan family, built in Freetown, the capital of the West African country Sierra Leone, aim to strengthen the bridge of friendship between the two countries.
The Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan Cultural Center and Müzeyyen Tarhan Mosque, built by the Medresetüzzehra Foundation with the initiative of the Merzifon Education and Culture Association and the support of the Turkey-Sierra Leone Friendship and Brotherhood Organization, were opened for service with a ceremony held after Friday prayers.
In addition to the local residents, many people from surrounding areas attended the opening of the cultural center and mosque.
At the opening, attended by local people wearing Turkish flag t-shirts, the center was decorated with star-and-crescent balloons.
Education for 550 people simultaneously
In the complex completed with the contributions of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, a total of 550 people can receive education simultaneously, with 300 indoors and 250 in the garden.
The region's largest mosque
The complex, built on a 2-acre plot of land, also includes a Quran course, guesthouse, and halls. Selami Solak, President of the Merzifon Education and Culture Association, who was present at the opening of the Cultural Center, stated that the Müzeyyen Tarhan Mosque within the Tarhan Cultural Center is the largest mosque in the region.
Solak stated that 65% of Sierra Leone, a country with a population of 7 million, is Muslim, and that the completed mosque and Quran course were welcomed with satisfaction in the region, expressing that such initiatives would make significant contributions to the development and strengthening of relations between the two countries.
