An event titled “Breast Cancer Awareness” was organized by the Üsküdar University Vocational School of Health Services (VSHS) Pathology Laboratory Techniques program. The event addressed topics such as early diagnosis in breast cancer and the importance of mammography. It was also emphasized that imaging methods and pathology play a significant role in breast cancer diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up applications.

Students from the Pathology Laboratory Techniques program and Medical Imaging Techniques program attended the event held at Üsküdar University Çarşı Campus Emir Nebi Conference Hall.
The event was moderated by Lecturer Eda Yetimoğlu, Head of the Pathology Laboratory Techniques Program at Üsküdar University Vocational School of Health Services (VSHS).
Asst. Prof. Dr. Zafer Akşit, a Radiology Specialist from Yeditepe University Hospital, participated as a speaker in the event. Akşit shared topics such as early diagnosis in breast cancer and the importance of mammography with the participants.

Breast cancer deaths can decrease by 50 percent!
Akşit, providing information about practices carried out until 1975, the beginning of breast cancer screening programs, spoke about what breast cancer screening programs are today. In this context, he stated that manual examination, breast ultrasound, and mammography applications are included in the screening programs. He also noted that thanks to the success of mammography screenings, deaths from breast cancer have decreased by 50 percent.
The Importance of Pathology in Breast Cancer
Akşit, noting that imaging methods and pathology have an important place in breast cancer diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up practices, emphasized the importance of current imaging techniques and mega cassette procedures applied in pathology laboratories for breast cancer diagnosis.
