Baran Kahraman, who enrolled in Uskudar University Faculty of Communication, Advertising Design and Communication Department in 2014, completed his undergraduate education in 2019. Baran Kahraman, who also graduated from the Visual Communication Design Department by double majoring during his undergraduate education, won a full scholarship to Kadir Has University Graduate School of New Media Master's Program in 2020. Baran Kahraman, who worked as a research assistant at a private university during the 2020-2021 academic year, became a research assistant in the Uskudar University Faculty of Communication, Visual Communication Design Department in September 2021.

"Being a Communication Student is Not Just About Being a Producer of Creative Works"

Speaking about his undergraduate education at Uskudar University, Baran Kahraman said: "The greatest feature of my undergraduate education is the combination of permeable and dynamic course plans between departments with disciplined study and learning processes. Although my main major was Advertising Design and Communication Department, by double majoring, I have now achieved a working discipline that blends both departments. In this sense, the biggest thing my university provided me was that the academic staff enriched my thoughts not only on the feasibility of production practices but also on what kind of foundations design and creative thinking could create. The photography profession I acquired before starting university also influenced my entire undergraduate education. This allowed me to develop my competencies both while striving to be an advertiser and in implementing creative ideas. It's a bit like retouching. You constantly replace things you're good at and happy with things you think you're not good at. I also need to thank my teachers in philosophy, law, economics, and psychology, whom I met in the first year of my education. Because being a communication student is not just about being a producer of creative works. It also requires being aware that life activities are not just about material reality, from your relationships with colleagues at work to managing the money you earn. Therefore, my undergraduate education was enriched and developed in terms of being able to be in the heart of Istanbul, being together with people who can think differently, and experiencing theory and practice together."

"Being able to produce knowledge within the walls where I gained knowledge excites me"

Expressing his excitement about becoming a lecturer at the university where he completed his undergraduate studies, Baran Kahraman said: "Being a lecturer at this school feels like the school's garden missed me. Frankly, it's hard to describe. This feeling transitions from a virtual reality to an actual practice every time I walk through a door. Being able to produce knowledge within the walls where I gained knowledge excites me greatly."

"We will focus on the principle of learning to learn"

Baran Kahraman also touched upon his academic goals and work plans for students: "Among my primary goals is to conduct research that will bring new perspectives to my fields of work, utilizing the technical and theoretical equipment I possess at my university. In these days where we can't grasp anything, what I'm trying to grasp is to be able to think and make others think with an inner balance. In this regard, I am looking forward to the day when we can meet face-to-face with all my fellow students. Together, we might want to think and create a space for discussion-sharing-production. This space could have a structure that will reduce the burden of responsibility brought by courses, focus on the principle of learning to learn, and perhaps enable collaborations. I believe we can organize some meetings in a workshop format."

"Every student should develop their own unique study method"

Offering advice to students studying at Uskudar University Faculty of Communication, Baran Kahraman said: "I believe every student should develop their own unique study method. My method is built on enjoying myself after completing the day's work, integrating/extracting learned information into daily life, being able to gather information from different disciplines amidst the numbing information flow of cyberspace, and calculating whether all this acquisition contributes to my work. My ultimate advice to students studying/who will study here would probably be not to settle for what is given. For example, not to underestimate the theoretical courses they will take, and not to advance their applied courses with the same techniques. Before graduating, an area of specialization should be determined, and one should become capable of performing the work in that area with all its requirements. They should particularly train their eyes in color, composition, typography, and print/digital topics. The city itself is a design. They should constantly think about what and how things can be integrated into this design. They should follow new design techniques and software and try to apply them. However, while doing all these, they should not get scattered and should create a proper portfolio in their favorite design forms. I hope we will be able to discuss all of these with everyone. I wish everyone success in the new academic year."
