Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör: “A good teacher needs to communicate very well”
Üsküdar Üniversitesi Rector Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör, who met with the educators, gave a speech titled “The Power of Classroom Communication: Key to Learning and Success”. Güngör stated; “We have to establish a different communication with each individual because each individual comes with a different experience. Then the teacher's job is quite difficult; that's why they call it the most sacred, most difficult profession in the world. To communicate with the class, you need to know the character of the group in front of you. You need to do a character analysis in the first lesson. For the lesson we are going to teach to reach its goal, the teacher must first decipher and analyze the character of the target group. Therefore, in the first stage, we need to get to know our students in the classroom. Every individual has a story. It's not possible for us to know each of their stories in detail, but it is beneficial to at least have each of our students briefly tell their stories and know them. Therefore, a good communicator, a good teacher, if they truly want to do their job well, needs to communicate very well. At the beginning of communication, the teacher needs to decipher the character of the student group they will address.”
“One of the fundamental rules of strong communication is equal treatment”
Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör, mentioning that every positive or negative interaction with students will be remembered for life, emphasized the importance of leaving good impressions on them. Güngör stated; “The teacher needs to know and understand the students they will teach so that they can determine the appropriate communication style. Each one is not the same, so there must be a communication style accordingly. Students need to be integrated first to prevent them from excluding each other. It is necessary to ensure their integration and mutual respect. The fine point is right here. One might have very high self-confidence, while another has low self-confidence. We will try to bring the self-confidence of those two students to the same level. No matter what family they come from, everyone here is equal. One of the fundamental rules of strong communication must absolutely be this, friends, equal treatment. We need to give them the message ‘You are all the same to me,’ but we cannot give that message with words. If we give it with words, we will completely ruin it, completely destroy it; we will show it with our actions. With every interaction, we leave a mark on each of our students; let's strive for that mark to be a good one. That is, not bad marks, not bad effects, because every interaction we have with our words, with our physical attention, every interaction is carried by them throughout their lives; they never forget it.”
Attention drawn to the concept of 'Netiquette'
Following Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör’s speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gül Esra Atalay, Head of the New Media and Communication Department at Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Communication, delivered a presentation titled Netiquette (Internet Ethics) to the participants.
