4th-year students of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Audiology, experienced the excitement of donning their white coats. Their families also did not leave the students alone on this happy day.
The event, held at Üsküdar Üniversitesi NP Sağlık Campus, Ibn Sina Auditorium, was attended by Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Arif Ertuğ Ertekin, Head of the Audiology Department Dr. Assistant Professor Didem Şahin, Audiology Lecturer Gökçe Gültekin, Audiology Lecturer Yeter Saçlı, Research Assistant Busemnaz Avşar Aksu, Research Assistant Büşra Aksu, as well as students and their parents.
Prof. Dr. Arif Ertuğ Ertekin: “The Audiology department truly has a very dynamic team”
The opening speech of the white coat ceremony was delivered by Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Health Sciences Dean Prof. Dr. Arif Ertuğ Ertekin. Ertekin stated; “The Audiology department truly has a very dynamic team. So much so that, at times, it becomes an intertwined environment where it's hard to distinguish between students and instructors. It's truly difficult to find such a sincere department that is close to its students. The pandemic was a challenging process for all of us. However, it also taught the world many things. We are proud of our 12 students who, despite these difficulties, continued their education and are with us today. The difference between healthcare and other professional groups is that you are in direct contact with people. You touch people, you add something to their lives. You share their emotions, lives, joys, and sorrows. You heal together, you grieve together. This is the most humane and special aspect of our profession.”
Dr. Assistant Professor Didem Şahin: “Our goal is not just to provide theoretical or practical knowledge…”
Speaking at the opening of the ceremony, Head of the Audiology Department Dr. Assistant Professor Didem Şahin said; “I have been working in this university, in this department, for approximately 7 years. With Lecturers Gökçe, Yeter, Büşra, and Busemnaz, we strive to run this four-year program in the best possible way. Our goal is not just to provide theoretical or practical knowledge. We strive to offer our students a sincere, heartfelt, and effective learning environment. At the same time, we try to convey to them what it means to be a good person, an ethical, moral, and understanding individual.”
Berna Aldemir: “These coats are a symbol of respect for human life”
Speaking at the event, Berna Aldemir, the 4th-year student representative of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Audiology Department, said; “Today, we have gathered here to take a very meaningful step for all of us. These white coats that we will wear are not just a piece of clothing; they are a symbol of responsibility, commitment to a profession, and respect for human life.”
A play titled “Challenges in the Field of Audiology” was staged
Following the opening speeches, a play titled “Challenges in the Field of Audiology” was staged by the Audiology department students. Within the scope of the play, it was emphasized that health issues should be resolved through scientific methods, not outdated ones, and messages were also given that health should not be relegated to the background.
Following the play, the white coat ceremony commenced.
The future audiologists, donning their coats with great enthusiasm, shared this happiness with their families.
