Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dina Abdelzaher Gave a Seminar at Üsküdar University

Disasters caused by global warming continue to threaten the entire world. While scientists and environmentalists continue to raise awareness about global warming and its consequences on every platform, the Üsküdar University Environmental Ethics Forum (ÜÇAF), established in May 2021, is also undertaking important work to create awareness in society. It brings together competent researchers and academics working in this field. The latest guest of ÜÇAF was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dina Abdelzaher from the College of Business at the University of Houston-Clear Lake, USA.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dina Abdelzaher visited Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özdemir, Head of the Philosophy Department at Üsküdar University's Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and also the Director of ÜÇAF, and received information about Üsküdar University's activities and ÜÇAF.

Abdelzaher expressed her appreciation for “el-Mizan: The World Environmental Agreement”, of which Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özdemir is one of the researchers, stating; “This agreement will be a call to all Muslims and humanity. It will be a roadmap for governments, NGOs, and society.”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdelzaher delivered a presentation titled “Eko İslam: Ne, Nasıl ve Sonrası: Şirketlerden Dersler” (Eco Islam: the what, the how, and the next: Lessons from Corporations), explaining the dynamic structure of the human-nature relationship with concrete examples. She also emphasized the need for producers and consumers in Islamic countries to heed the message of el-Mizan: The World Environmental Agreement; and to form a more environmentally conscious business and consumer base with an ethical responsibility, in harmony with the spirit of Islam. In her presentation, Abdelzaher provided examples of consumers better understanding themselves and what they can do, as well as businesses' efforts to become more ‘green’.

The seminar, which took place with intense participation from various faculties of Üsküdar University, also attracted great interest from outside. The program continued with a Q&A session after the presentation and concluded with a discussion section.

At the end of the talk, Prof. Dr. Özdemir presented Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdelzaher with The Rumi Therapy, a book by Üsküdar University Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan.
