Director of Üsküdar University's Solution-Oriented Women's Issues Application and Research Center (ÜSÇÖZÜM), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aylin Tutgun Ünal, attended the March 8th Women in the Maritime Sector Workshop event, organized in cooperation with ITU and PIRU.

Prominent figures took part in the panel, moderated by Ayşe Olcay, President of the Maritime Culture Association.
The opening speeches of the workshop were made by Piri Reis University Rector Prof. Dr. Oral Erdoğan and ITU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Lütfiye Durak Ata at the program, where the emphasis was placed on 'There should be a Human at Sea, not a Woman at Sea'.
Addressing the fact that women mostly work on land, the low number of women working on ships, and the difficulties they face, solution proposals were discussed. In particular, the importance of solution-oriented work that universities should undertake in this regard, especially as difficulties begin during internship periods when students gain their first work experience, was discussed within the scope of both guidelines and action plans.
Ünal: 'Social roles lead to a sexist approach in professions'
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aylin Tutgun Ünal stated that social roles give rise to a sexist approach in many occupational groups, and said, 'The implementation and follow-up of action plans prepared by universities are important for many sectors. Furthermore, in the context of public communication, social activities such as public service announcements, seminars, and panels can be conducted through face-to-face and digital communication channels to raise awareness and increase consciousness.'
