Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aylin Tutgun Ünal, Faculty Member at Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Communication, participated in the “Metaverse and Education” themed Education Technologies Summit – YETZ 2022, organized by the New Turkey Education Foundation (YETEV). The summit addressed the digital dimension of education and digital competencies.
Held at Yeni Doğu Schools İstanbul Çekmeköy campus, the opening speeches of the 'Metaverse and Education' themed summit were delivered by YETEV Board of Trustees Chairman Necmettin Bilal Erdoğan and YETEV Schools General Manager Hayati Oktay.
Following the opening speeches, a panel was held. Speakers at the panel included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aylin Tutgun Ünal, Faculty Member at Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Communication, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yavuz Samur, and Akan Abdula.
‘Metaverse in Education’ was discussed
At the summit, which focused on 'Metaverse in Education', many areas affected by the Metaverse were discussed. The philosophy, psychology, sociology, management, teaching methods and techniques, and instructional design models of education, along with the digital dimension of education and digital competencies, were discussed throughout the day in panels and subsequent workshops.
The summit highlighted the contributions of Metaverse to education and the potential risks for children, emphasizing the importance of children being able to interact comfortably with these technologies, and various topics were discussed. Being a parent to digital children, gamification, how educational technologies can be used in teacher-student communication, the effects of technological tools on attention, instructional design models, design-oriented thinking, artificial intelligence technologies in education, and many other topics were discussed within the scope of panels and workshops.
The panel event concluded with YETEV Board of Trustees Chairman Mr. Necmettin Bilal Erdoğan presenting plaques to the speakers.
