Misinformation in New Media
Assist. Prof. Dr. Yıldıray Kesgin, in his work titled ‘Misinformation, Conspiracy Theories, and the Denial of Science in New Media’, focuses on misinformation, which leads to irregularities in the information ecosystem regarding new media production and sharing, and draws attention to how the distinction between real and fake in misinformation production has begun to blur, especially with the development of artificial intelligence technologies.
Assist. Prof. Dr. Yıldıray Kesgin states in his book that verification practices in the new media environment have weakened, and trust in information has been deeply shaken. He points out that the production, sharing, and acceptance of misinformation in various types and media forms today cause irregularities and unverified information densities in the information ecosystem.
The book, which includes examinations within social, economic, and political frameworks, focuses on the challenging impact of misinformation, which, due to its manipulative nature, gives rise to various inequalities and ethical violations, on human rights and freedoms, and democracy. This allows it to be examined in all its forms across different contexts.
