Artificial intelligence is transforming the labor market!

Experts state that artificial intelligence is reducing the demand for individuals working in routine jobs in the labor market, while increasing the demand for highly skilled labor, adding that significant changes are occurring in the labor market, and this transformation is reshaping the skills and competencies of employees.

Dr. Lecturer Kristin Surpuhi Benli, noting that new occupational groups will begin to emerge with the rise of artificial intelligence, said, “People can benefit from the potential of this technology by developing themselves in areas where artificial intelligence technologies are needed and acquiring new skills.”

Dr. Lecturer Kristin Surpuhi Benli, Deputy Head of the Department of Software Engineering at Üsküdar University's Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, evaluated the concern about unemployment caused by artificial intelligence.

Artificial intelligence is used to help people

Dr. Lecturer Kristin Surpuhi Benli, stating that artificial intelligence is used to accelerate routine operations, increase efficiency and quality, reduce error rates, and in short, to help people and make their lives easier, said, “Developments in the field of artificial intelligence are leading to changes and transformations in the working methods of many sectors such as office work, accounting, legal services, healthcare services, and customer services. In this process, while the demand for individuals working in routine jobs in the labor market decreases, the demand for highly skilled individuals who can produce solutions for future needs increases. The content of the competencies, knowledge, and skills expected from employees is changing. In this new era, the demand for employees who cannot meet expectations in the labor market is decreasing. What needs to be done here is to put employees through a high-quality training process that can bring their skills to a level where they can perform skilled jobs.”

Can be used to reduce labor in simple and repetitive tasks

Emphasizing that artificial intelligence can be used to reduce labor in simple and repetitive tasks with a certain routine, Dr. Lecturer Kristin Surpuhi Benli said, “For example, AI-powered chatbots used in call centers have the ability to respond to simple customer requests quickly and at any time of the day. Thus, they take over some tasks of call center employees. However, when there is a complex issue, customers communicate with human employees.”

Can research similar cases instead of a trainee lawyer

Stating that artificial intelligence can also assist managers in human resources processes such as recruitment, performance evaluation, and compensation, Dr. Lecturer Kristin Surpuhi Benli said, “In finance, it can prepare reports for clients and offer them financial advice. Another example can be given in the field of Law. Artificial intelligence can research other cases similar to the one being worked on, instead of a trainee lawyer. AI can research, analyze hundreds of cases in a short time, and present a result.”

Non-original news content can be produced with artificial intelligence

Dr. Lecturer Kristin Surpuhi Benli noted that another profession that can be considered at risk is journalism, stating, “Non-original news content can be produced with artificial intelligence. Furthermore, in the medical field, artificial intelligence can assist physicians in diagnosis and treatment stages. Since artificial intelligence can be used in tasks such as automating image analysis, it can facilitate the work of radiologists and pathologists. In the software field, it can be used to improve the software development process and increase the quality of the resulting software,” she said.

New occupational groups will emerge

Emphasizing that new occupational groups will begin to emerge with the rise of artificial intelligence, Dr. Lecturer Kristin Surpuhi Benli concluded her words by saying, “For example, as artificial intelligence continues to advance rapidly, it also brings ethical concerns to people's minds. In the future, we will see AI ethics specialization as a new profession in the labor market to solve the ethical problems created by artificial intelligence. The question of who will be responsible for the errors made by artificial intelligence will be a new subject of study in the legal field, and new legal regulations will be made. Along with this, professions such as artificial intelligence engineering, robotics engineering, data science specialization, cybersecurity specialization, and digital marketing specialization will come to the fore in the business world. Employees with a background in areas such as data analysis, machine learning, natural language processing, and database management are more needed in this period. People can benefit from the potential of this technology by developing themselves in areas where artificial intelligence technologies are needed and acquiring new skills.”
