A symposium titled “Nursing Students Symposium: Artificial Intelligence in Nursing” was organized by the Nursing Club affiliated with the Health, Culture and Sports (SKS) Department of Üsküdar Üniversitesi. At the symposium, nursing students shared their work on the contributions of artificial intelligence to professional practices with the participants. Within the scope of the event, an “Design with AI: Artificial Intelligence and Nursing Poster Competition” was also held, and successful posters were awarded.

The symposium, held at Üsküdar Üniversitesi NP Health Campus İbn-i Sina auditorium, garnered significant interest from faculty academics and students.

Prof. Dr. Arif Aktuğ Ertekin: “If we don't use it rationally, it will start to use us”
The opening speech of the symposium was delivered by Prof. Dr. Arif Aktuğ Ertekin, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Üsküdar Üniversitesi. Ertekin, who touched upon the development process of technology from past to present, drew attention to the effects of artificial intelligence on life and professions.
In his speech, Ertekin stated; “Artificial intelligence, when used rationally, is a system that will greatly facilitate our lives and provide significant contributions. However, if not used rationally, it can turn into a structure that directs us within 5-10 years. It is developing very rapidly and is now present in every aspect of our lives. It converts a lot of information that could be obtained over a long period into data in a very short time. The important thing here is to be able to use this technology efficiently and consciously without turning into digital addiction.”

Prof. Dr. Selma Doğan: “Our people will always need us”
Prof. Dr. Selma Doğan, Head of the Department of Nursing at the Faculty of Health Sciences, pointed out that there should be no concerns about artificial intelligence replacing nursing.
Doğan said; “Artificial intelligence has entered our lives very quickly. However, if we are not professionally conscious, and if we do not develop our AI literacy and professional skills, risks may arise. There is no need to worry about artificial intelligence replacing us in nursing. We work with people, emotions, and constantly changing dynamics. We can benefit from the technical aspects of artificial intelligence, but our people, our patients will always need us.”
