Art and Thought Converge at Academic Year Closing

The Üsküdar Üniversitesi English Preparatory School organized the “Year-End Debates and Interactive Drama Performance” event. Within the scope of the event, academic discussion, artistic expression, and theatrical performance met with participants in a dynamic combination. The progress and skills acquired by the English Preparatory School students throughout the year were also showcased.

The event, held at the Nermin Tarhan Conference Hall in the Central Campus, began with the opening speech of Prof. Dr. Muhsin Konuk, Advisor to the Rector and Head of the Common Courses Department. 

The opening speeches continued with the address by Dilek Batur, Coordinator of Foreign Languages. In this context, it was emphasized that language learning is a bridge to global citizenship, and the dedication shown by students throughout the academic year was acknowledged.

The Importance of Holistic Education Emphasized

The event then continued with two debates conducted by C1 and B2 level students. 

The first group, consisting of Melisa Altunsoy, Kadida Diallo, Aybike Türkeri, and Beyza Demet, discussed the topic of “Positive Discrimination Towards Women.” The arguments presented by the students provided an opportunity to develop critical thinking skills.

The second group, composed of Sude Naz Ozat, Simay Efsun Velioğlu, Eylül Keçiyokuşu, and Melek Şevval Kömürlü, debated the question “Should Art and Music Be Compulsory Courses Even for Science Students?” In this context, the importance of holistic education was also emphasized.

Musical Performance Held

Former students of the Preparatory School, Ece Altun and Kutay Kaya, delivered an emotional and energetic performance, singing English and Turkish songs and playing the guitar.

Event Concluded with Interactive Theatre Play

The event then concluded with an interactive theatre play. Students who started the academic year at A2 level and are currently at B2 level took the stage in the play. The students’ performance was not only a testament to their language development but also reflected their creativity and teamwork.
