The “End of Year Debates and Interactive Drama Performance” event was organized by the English Preparatory School of Üsküdar University. Within the scope of the event, academic debate, artistic expression, and theatrical performance were presented to the participants through a dynamic combination. At the same time, the progress and skills that English Preparatory School students acquired throughout the year were also showcased.

The event, held at the Nermin Tarhan Conference Hall in the Main Campus, began with the opening speech of Prof. Muhsin Konuk, Advisor to the Rector and Head of the Common Courses Department.

The opening speeches continued with a speech by Dilek Batur, Coordinator of Foreign Languages. In this context, it was emphasized that language learning is a bridge to global citizenship, and the dedication demonstrated by the students throughout the academic year was appreciated.

The importance of holistic education was emphasized

The event continued with two debates performed by students at the C1 and B2 levels.
The first group, consisting of Melisa Altunsoy, Kadida Diallo, Aybike Türkeri, and Beyza Demet, addressed the topic of “Positive Discrimination Towards Women.” The arguments presented by the students provided an opportunity to improve their critical thinking skills.

The second group, consisting of Sude Naz Ozat, Simay Efsun Velioğlu, Eylül Keçiyokuşu, and Melek Şevval Kömürlü, debated the topic “Should Art and Music Be Compulsory Courses Even for Students of Quantitative Departments?” In this context, the importance of holistic education was also highlighted.

 

A musical performance was delivered

Former students of the Preparatory School, Ece Altun and Kutay Kaya, performed an emotional and energetic musical presentation by singing songs in both English and Turkish while playing the guitar.

The event ended with an interactive theater play

The event concluded with an interactive theater performance. In the play, students who began the academic year at the A2 level and progressed to the B2 level took the stage. The students’ performance not only demonstrated their language development but also reflected their creativity and teamwork.
