An “Anesthesia Day” event was organized by the Anesthesia Program of Üsküdar University Vocational School of Health Services (SHMYO) and the Anesthesia Club of the Health, Culture and Sports (SKS) Department. The event addressed professional career in anesthesia technology, its development process, real-world experiences from the field, and future recommendations. Lect. Ahmet Emre Azaklı from the Anesthesia Program participated as a speaker at the event.

The event, held at Üsküdar University Çarşı Campus Emirnebi 1 conference hall, attracted significant interest.

Merve Aydın Karabaş: “Anesthesia technicians are an indispensable part of the health system”

Lect. Merve Aydın Karabaş, Head of the SHMYO Anesthesia Program, who delivered the opening speech of the event, offered advice to students. Karabaş emphasized that students need to develop themselves not only technically, theoretically, and practically, but also intellectually; “Anesthesia is a field requiring high responsibility, ensuring the surgeon’s safety, the patient’s comfort, and the most critical balance with life. Anesthesia technicians, the unseen heroes of this field, are an indispensable part of the health system with their knowledge, attention, and team spirit. In professions that involve human interaction, we always talk about giving a lot of yourself and therefore needing to develop yourself significantly. Since you will be the first to meet patients in the operating room, your attitude towards the patient, especially how you develop the concept of empathy within yourself, is truly very important. These celebrations or commemorations truly have a reason. Not just to gather in a crowd. We also want you to see once again how valuable your profession is as a whole to everyone,” she stated.

Ahmet Emre Azaklı: “Let everyone compete with their previous day’s self”

Lect. Ahmet Emre Azaklı shared his career journey, academic achievements, and professional experiences with the students.

Azaklı emphasized the critical importance of understanding the physiological foundations of anesthesia applications, and the need to enhance professional competencies and strengthen collaboration within the healthcare team. Azaklı said, “It is not possible to see what goes through the mind of an anesthesia technician from the outside, even when they are sitting or standing still. Because our job is very important in terms of motor skills but involves a lot of calculation. I always tell my students, ‘Our primary desire is not to send a patient back in the same condition they arrived.’ Be eager for every piece of information and accept that you know very little. In the healthcare sector, let’s combine our expertise and instead of competing with each other, let everyone compete with their previous day’s self. In fact, our goal is to send them back in a better condition than they arrived. Even if I were a professor, I would be most proud to be an anesthesia technician. Because anesthesia technology is my honorable profession that has given me my life, my friends, a large part of my income, my beloved students, and thousands of friends I met through social media.”

After anesthesia students asked their questions to Lect. Ahmet Emre Azaklı, Lect. Merve Aydın Karabaş, Head of the Anesthesia Program, and Lect. Abdurrahman Şengül from the Anesthesia Program presented a gift to Lect. Ahmet Emre Azaklı.

The event concluded with a group photo session.
