The event held at Üsküdar University Çarşı Campus was moderated by Lecturer Kübra Akkalay, Head of Üsküdar University Health Information Systems Technicians Program.
Turan: 'There are great opportunities in Anatolia'
Expert Orthotist Prosthetist Can Turan advised students to turn to Anatolia after graduation instead of big cities like Istanbul and Ankara. Highlighting a great need for orthopedic and prosthetic services in Anatolia, Turan said, 'Unfortunately, our profession cannot provide sufficient service areas in Anatolia. In other words, there is a complete need and demand there.'
'Keep your vision broad and follow your dreams'
Explaining his own career journey, Turan stated that he dreamt of establishing a clinic during his student years and quickly reached this goal after graduation. Turan, who founded Analiz Ortopedi in 2020, drew attention to the importance he placed on branding and infrastructure. Turan advised students to get ideas from experienced people in the sector but not to pay attention to negative criticism; 'Take constructive criticism. When you look at it sectorally, many people might tell you 'What are you going to do? We already exist.' Keep your vision broad and follow your dreams.'
'Focus on R&D, make a difference'
Turan advised students to focus on R&D studies to make a difference in the sector. Stating that there is a global need for new and innovative products, Turan said, '3D printer technologies, new materials... You can make a difference in the sector by working on these. Success depends on the people you communicate with. Expand your network, attend congresses and fairs, and constantly improve yourself.'
'Multidisciplinary work is very important'
Emphasizing the importance of multidisciplinary work in orthopedic and prosthetic applications, Turan said, 'Not every patient is immediately given an AFO or an orthosis application. You should work with doctors and physiotherapists to find the most suitable solution for the patient.'
'Continuous education is a must'
Turan advised students to continue their education even after graduation, emphasizing the importance of closely following developments in the sector and being open to innovations.
Students who listened to Can Turan's experiences and advice also had the opportunity to ask questions about the sector.
