Üsküdar University, at APA’s request, will present its “Computational Psychiatry” studies to the World…

Üsküdar University and NPİSTANBUL Brain Hospital achieved significant success this year at the American Psychiatric Association (APA) congress, which they regularly attend every year. Under the chairmanship of Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, presentations by Üsküdar University and NPİSTANBUL Brain Hospital academics in the field of ‘Computational Psychiatry and Future Perspectives’ were selected as one of the 12 best virtual course contents among thousands of presentations by scientists from all over the world. The panel presentations titled "Computational Psychiatry & Future Perspectives" were chosen as one of 12 topics via an official survey to be presented as a course to all members at APA 2021 and will be published on the website.
Üsküdar University to Present One of 12 Courses at APA 2021…
The APA (American Psychiatric Association) Congress, organized annually by the American Psychiatric Association, was held online/virtually this year between April 25-29, 2020, within the scope of pandemic measures. Üsküdar University and NPİSTANBUL Brain Hospital, under the chairmanship of Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, also participated this year in the congress, which addressed the latest developments in diagnosis and treatment. At the congress, which featured world-renowned scientists in the fields of Neurology, Psychiatry, and Psychopharmacology;
Founding Rector – Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, ‘Computational Psychiatry & Future Perspectives’ ,
Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Sermin Kesebir: “Brain Waves Rhythm, Entropy And Chaos”,
Üsküdar University Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Türker Tekin Ergüzel: “Deep Learning Applications in Neuroscience”,
Prof. Dr. Maheen Adamson from Stanford University: presented on “Neuromodulation in Brain Injury: Current Perspectives from Neuroimaging and Proteomic Biomarkers”.
APA Requested, Üsküdar University Will Present “Computational Psychiatry” Studies to the World…
The presentation, which explained computational psychiatry and presented future perspectives, was followed with great interest by scientists participating from many parts of the world, and was selected as one of the 12 best virtual course contents to be published at APA 2021. Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan stated that there were 3 reasons for the success, listing them as follows:
Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan: “The New Space of Science is the ‘Brain’ and We Are on the Right Scientific Path”
“- The topic we chose, computational psychiatry, our effort to bring abstract concepts into mathematical form and to introduce an innovation like neuroquantology into your daily psychiatric practice, is a sign that we are pioneering the spirit of this era. The thesis that the universe is digitally based and the importance of Big Data will change many things.
- Elon Musk is doing BCI. He is trying to control animals with buttons. We are trying to do this with three disciplines together and introduce the engineering concept of entropy into behavioral sciences. For this, we must be able to synthesize informatics and neuropsychiatry.
- That what we do does not remain theoretical, and that our pioneering work in QEEG and Neuromodulation at NPİSTANBUL Brain Hospital is noticed. Our work at NPİSTANBUL Brain Hospital and Üsküdar University are tasks that a psychiatrist dreams of. All of this indicates that we are moving in the right direction, and we need to provide more information flow to the scientific world.”
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Türker Tekin Ergüzel, Head of Üsküdar University's Software Engineering Department, commented on the subject, stating that scientific studies worldwide are concentrated in the field of brain research. Ergüzel made the following remarks:

“Üsküdar University Draws Attention with Its International Research”
“As can be seen from Gartner Research company's curve of prominent technologies for 2020, technologies concentrating between brain and big data are high-impact work areas receiving investment worldwide. Our university's commitment to not only operate locally but also collaborate with international researchers in these areas, which align with our R&D focus, will pave the way for similar successes.
This award is the result of the healthy and accurate academic structure and collaboration of our hospital and university, with the contribution of our esteemed Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan's;
- EEG and Clinical Neuroscience Society (ECNS),
- Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics (SBMT) and
- Vision to ensure academic development by including many of our researchers in the scientific conferences of international organizations/communities conducting brain research, primarily including the American Psychiatric Association (APA). Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan's passion for training researchers, working, and producing, which also inspires us, was awarded in the USA two years ago. For his roles in raising awareness about the foundation and its mission through strategic programs, global collaborations, and partnerships in the field of brain research, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan was awarded the Golden Axon Leadership Award in 2018, an award also given to Nobel laureate Eric Kandel.

Üsküdar University and NPİSTANBUL Brain Hospital in the International Brain Research Consortium…
While Üsküdar University draws attention with its work in this field, its practice-science partner NPİSTANBUL Brain Hospital signed a scientific cooperation agreement with leading universities worldwide through the International Brain Research Consortium (IBRC) in November 2020. The consortium includes Stanford University in America, Icahn School of Medicine (New York), University of Ottawa in Canada, and University of Tehran from Iran.
The consortium, which will conduct neuroscience-focused studies, aims to prioritize medical big data analysis and biomarker detection using data collected through neuroimaging methods.
