Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine organized the "AFAD Pandemic Activities" program, which took place via Zoom. Çanakkale Provincial Disaster and Emergency Director İbrahim Tarı participated in the program as a speaker. Tarı touched upon topics such as disaster management, rescue activities, and volunteerism.

“Disaster management is considered as a whole”
Emphasizing the importance of disaster management at the beginning of his speech, İbrahim Tarı stated; “Disaster management is considered as a whole. Risk reduction efforts before a disaster, intervention during a disaster, and development work afterward all demonstrate to us that the disaster management cycle is a complete entity. If we can manage this process correctly, we will succeed in responding to disasters and thus reduce damage. The new structure has become capable of performing all these tasks.”

“Activities prior to rescue are also included in the disaster response plan”
Speaking about disaster response, İbrahim Tarı stated; “Responding to disasters is also crucial. We had a regulation from 1988 concerning this. Today, we have our disaster response plan. Under the current disaster response plan, risk plans and subsequently recovery plans will be completed. When we describe disaster response plans, we do not solely foresee activities focused on rescue. We also define the activities that precede rescue within this system.”
“Disaster preparedness is not something that only one institution can handle”
Speaking about disaster volunteers, Tarı remarked; “What we need most in times like these are volunteers. Our volunteer numbers need to be increased. Indeed, we observe volunteers actively participating in the field during the İzmir earthquake, which we followed very closely, in both intervention and recovery efforts, as well as in social aid activities. This task, disaster preparedness, is not something that a single institution can manage alone. As citizens of this country, we have responsibilities. Volunteering and participating in these training programs will be highly beneficial in assisting you and your loved ones.”
