Üsküdar University Project Development Specialist, Specialist Clinical Psychologist Edibe Serra Erol, gave a training within the scope of the “Training of Trainers Education Program” organized by the Ministry of Health, the Presidency of Religious Affairs, and the Istanbul Muftiate Addiction Combat Center (İBAM) for Istanbul Muftiate Addiction Combat Coordinators. In her presentation titled “Addiction Risks and Behavior Management in Adolescence,” Erol addressed the factors affecting addiction risk and protective approaches in adolescence.

The training program, held at the Fatih Muftiate Conference Hall, aimed to develop the professional knowledge and competencies of the Istanbul Muftiate Addiction Combat Coordinators.

A Scientific Perspective on Adolescence

In the program, Üsküdar University Project Development Specialist Edibe Serra Erol pointed out that adolescence is a sensitive developmental stage where rapid physical, cognitive, and emotional changes occur. Evaluating the risk areas that young people may encounter during this process, Erol shared comprehensive information on individual, familial, and environmental factors effective in the emergence of addictive behaviors.

Protective and Preventive Approaches Evaluated

In the presentation, the importance of strengthening not only risks but also protective factors in the fight against addiction was emphasized. While the role of healthy family relationships, secure attachment, effective communication, positive role models, and social support mechanisms in keeping young people away from addiction risk was discussed, preventive approaches applicable in behavior management were shared with the participants.

The training contributed to supporting the current knowledge and application skills of coordinators involved in addiction combat regarding adolescence, while also strengthening protective mental health studies in line with scientific foundations.
