Actor Tuncay Çağıl, known for the series Diriliş Ertuğrul, met with Üsküdar Üniversitesi students. Çağıl, hosted by the Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Audiology and Audiometry, shared insights about his profession. The meeting, which attracted great interest from students, took place at Üsküdar Üniversitesi Nermin Tarhan Conference Hall.
In the seminar organized within the scope of the University Culture course; topics such as empathy, respect for patients, and bringing out students' imaginative thoughts were interactively conveyed to the students.
“Not getting excited means losing that state of mind”
Speaking about managing the emotion of excitement on stage, Tuncay Çağıl stated that the most striking point about acting is to always keep emotions like excitement and energy alive. Çağıl said: “If you have lost your energy for this job, don't do it. Not getting excited before going on stage means losing that state of mind. This has nothing to do with professionalism. The more professional you are, the more excited you get.”
“As audiologists, you must empathize with people beyond numbers”
Tuncay Çağıl, who took part in a play about the early detection of hearing loss and guiding children towards hearing aids as early as possible, evaluated the play. Çağıl said: “The disregard and unawareness of hearing loss by parents in our country is a major handicap. As audiologists, you need to develop empathy with people beyond numbers, because life outside is not just about numbers. We saw this in the recent earthquake example. Human life is not just about numbers. You can do everything on paper through numbers, but the moment you establish a dialogue, those numbers disappear, the people in front of you have a soul, and you can communicate with them mentally. My goal here is to find the answer to the question of how we can reach children and adults more sincerely.”
“Awareness can be raised among people through acting”
Çağıl stated that the sole purpose of the acting profession cannot be ‘to be a good actor’; “Our professional field is a material in our hands. Through this profession, awareness can be raised among people. For example, it can be used to ensure that hearing aids are provided to individuals in need, especially children and young people. The play we performed is a play that started with the question of how we can do this in an entertaining way. If we can convey this to the people in the best way possible, I believe the return will be very significant. It will also be very useful professionally for you. Our goal is to deliver that beautiful fruit continuously fresh, without falling to the ground and rotting.”
Didem Şahin Ceylan: “Our aim is not only to teach Audiology, but also to show how to be a quality person”
At the end of the seminar, Dr. Öğr. Üyesi Didem Şahin Ceylan, Head of the Audiology Department at the Faculty of Health Sciences, thanked actor Tuncay Çağıl for his presence at Üsküdar Üniversitesi. Ceylan said: “As individuals, our goal is not just to teach Audiology. We try to show how to be a quality person. We try to express this through our conversations and sincerity. I would like to thank Professor Tuncay very much for this wonderful seminar.”
The seminar concluded after a group photo session.
