A New Model for Children Driven to Crime!

Gaziosmanpaşa District Governor İskender Yönden visited Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, Founding Rector of Üsküdar Üniversitesi, in his office. During the meeting, held under the leadership of the Üsküdar Üniversitesi Social Contribution Coordination, a scientifically-based project aimed at reintegrating children driven to crime into society was evaluated. Within the scope of the project, the goals are to strengthen family ties, provide psychosocial support, and support the integration of children into society through education, art, and social entrepreneurship activities.  

Gaziosmanpaşa District Governor İskender Yönden, Young Brains Academy Director and Social Contribution Coordinator Dr. Lecturer Nebiye Yaşar, and the project team attended the meeting held in the office of Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, Founding Rector of Üsküdar Üniversitesi, under the leadership of the Üsküdar Üniversitesi Social Contribution Coordination.

The project, which aims to reduce the rates of children re-offending by creating a model based on scientific data, targets strengthening family bonds and increasing social harmony.

Speaking at the meeting, Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, Founding Rector of Üsküdar Üniversitesi, stated that lasting social transformation is possible where science unites with conscientious sensitivity. Tarhan said; “Every child driven to crime is a silent call from the social system. If we can combine a scientific approach with conscientious sensitivity, we not only rehabilitate these children but also rekindle the potential within them. As Üsküdar Üniversitesi, our mission is to transform human-centered science into social betterment.”

Gaziosmanpaşa District Governor İskender Yönden, in his speech, drew attention to the importance of public-university cooperation. Yönden stated; “The project is a powerful example of our state’s compassionate hand meeting science. Our goal is to ensure that our young people driven to crime can embrace life with hope again. We believe that with the scientific contribution of Üsküdar Üniversitesi, this model will set an example.” 

Dr. Lecturer Nebiye Yaşar: “Every child is a source of hope”

Social Contribution Coordinator Dr. Lecturer Nebiye Yaşar stated that the process is not just a rehabilitation effort but a journey of believing in humanity again. Yaşar said; “Our project is a responsibility not only for children driven to crime but also for the conscience of society. Every child is a source of hope. When they are given the right opportunities, they become a light for society with their potential.”

A scientific approach that touches the heart of society

The model developed under the academic guidance of Üsküdar Üniversitesi is not just a rehabilitation project but is designed as a holistic transformation initiative focused on positive psychology, aiming for young individuals to rediscover their inner potential and be integrated into society as productive members.

At the core of the model are:

-    Psychosocial support, 

-    Family empowerment, 

-    Rehabilitation through education, 

-    Creativity and art-based activities, 

-    Social entrepreneurship, and 

-    Reintegration into society practices.

Every child will be supported with special modules

Within the scope of the project, each child will be supported with special modules prepared in the areas of personal development and social skills. The children’s sense of social belonging will be strengthened through drama, sports, digital productivity, and volunteer-based activities.

Steps towards next-generation social transformation…

At the end of the meeting, it was decided to launch a pilot application in the Gaziosmanpaşa district to test the model in a field-based manner and to disseminate the findings as an academic report nationwide.

Books were gifted to participants

At the end of the meeting, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan gifted the participants the Family Set and Life-Changing Books within the scope of the Family Year.
