A Meaningful Donation of 1,453 Books from Prof. M. Mehdi Ergüzel

Prof. Mehmet Mehdi Ergüzel, a distinguished scholar whose works have made significant contributions to the field of Turkish Language and Literature, made a meaningful donation to Üsküdar University on the anniversary of the Conquest of Istanbul. Marking this special date, he donated exactly 1,453 books to the university library. In return, Üsküdar University Founding Rector and President of the Supreme Board of Management, Prof. Nevzat Tarhan, presented Prof. Ergüzel with a special set of his own authored works, personally signed. Prof. Ergüzel described this donation as one of the most meaningful decisions of his academic career spanning over half a century.

Known for his work in Turkish Language and Literature, Prof. Mehmet Mehdi Ergüzel emphasized that placing books in a center of learning is the most appropriate choice. He stated that the donated collection predominantly consists of works in the social sciences.

 

A Book Presentation by Prof. Nevzat Tarhan

In recognition of this meaningful contribution, Prof. Nevzat Tarhan, Founding Rector of Üsküdar University, gifted Prof. Ergüzel a special set of his own signed books. He also presented a sapling certificate with the heartfelt wish that “many wise generations may grow in its shade.”

Prof. Mehmet Mehdi Ergüzel noted that the donated collection includes works across many disciplines such as literature, language, history, philosophy, theology, mysticism, and politics. The genres span from novels, short stories, and poetry to historical sources and intellectual works. He expressed his hope that these publications would benefit university students and stated that this donation was one of the most worthwhile decisions of his academic career, which has extended over more than fifty years.
