Üsküdar Üniversitesi achieved a significant success by preparing master's theses within the scope of Turkey's first human space mission.

Üsküdar Üniversitesi master's students Ebru Çam and Özge Demir prepared master's theses within the scope of Turkey's first human space mission with their research conducted under the supervision of Dr. Cihan Taştan, Project Manager of the MESSAGE experiment.

Üsküdar Üniversitesi achieved a significant success by preparing master's theses within the scope of Turkey's first human space mission.

The prepared theses were presented at the Scientific Mission Evaluation Workshop held in June, hosted by TÜBİTAK, in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Technology, the Turkish Space Agency (TUA), and TÜBİTAK UZAY.

Dr. Cihan Taştan, Director of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Transgenic Cell Technologies and Epigenetic Application and Research Center (TRGENMER) and Project Manager of the MESSAGE experiment, presented the results of the MESSAGE (Microgravity Associated Genetics) Scientific Mission, which he led, at the workshop, participating with Beyza Aydın, TRGENMER & NPCELLAB R&D manager at Üsküdar Üniversitesi.

A new first from Üsküdar Üniversitesi!

Üsküdar Üniversitesi master's students Ebru Çam and Özge Demir achieved a significant success by preparing master's theses within the scope of Turkey's first human space mission with their research conducted under the supervision of Dr. Cihan Taştan.

The students, who published their theses within the scope of the MESSAGE scientific mission, titled “Mechanisms of Longevity and Cellular Aging in Microgravity: Investigating the Effects of Spaceflight on Aging, Oxidative Stress and Immune Responses” (Ebru Çam) and “Expression Changes and Functional Interpretation of LOC Genes of Unknown Function in Microgravity Environment” (Özge Demir), respectively, achieved an academic first in the field of space research in our country.

Master's theses within the scope of the first human space mission are from Üsküdar Üniversitesi

The master's theses within the scope of Turkey's first human space mission revealed not only the challenge of scientific work but also the feasibility of these studies. Throughout the process, Dr. Cihan Taştan, the MESSAGE Scientific Mission leader, and his team tried to overcome the difficulties of sample collection in space with certified training from NASA. Despite the challenges posed by microgravity conditions on the experiments, experimental materials and protocols suitable for space conditions were developed.

Results of scientific studies evaluated

Turkey's first astronaut Alper Gezeravcı, astronaut Tuva Cihangir Atasever, TÜBİTAK President Prof. Dr. Orhan Aydın, and numerous scientists participated in the workshop. Turkish flags taken to the International Space Station by TÜBİTAK President, Turkish Space Agency President, and our astronauts Alper Gezeravcı and Tuva Cihangir Atasever, along with Certificates of Appreciation, were presented to the Leaders of the 13 Scientific Missions carried out in space within the scope of the Turkish Astronaut and Scientific Mission project. Within the program, the results of scientific studies carried out during Turkey's first space mission were evaluated.

Scientific experiments conducted in space went through challenging processes

Scientific experiments conducted in space go through processes that are quite different and more challenging than those performed on Earth. While the preparation processes of our astronauts before their space journey, from diet and exercise programs to physiological monitoring, were meticulously carried out, the MESSAGE Scientific Mission was also designed to meet these conditions.

Significant contribution to the history of science!

As a result of all these intensive studies, the results of the MESSAGE scientific mission were shared at the Scientific Mission Evaluation Workshop within the scope of the Turkish Astronaut and Scientific Mission Project, and the master's theses within the scope of Turkey's first human space mission were published, making a significant contribution to the history of science.
