Prof. Dr. Arif Aktuğ Ertekin: “Let's be open to self-improvement”
Üsküdar University Faculty of Health Sciences Dean Prof. Dr. Arif Aktuğ Ertekin made evaluations regarding the students' need to be extremely sensitive about protecting their rights. Ertekin stated: “Let's be open to self-improvement, but also be extremely sensitive about protecting your rights. The children you will raise will play extremely important roles in the development of this society, the good development of its culture, the formation of human values, the advancement of science, and the progress of life. From this perspective, I believe that all of you will be aware of your responsibilities. I greet and congratulate all of you with respect and love.”
Prof. Dr. Güler Cimete: “Learning and teaching will continue lifelong”
Üsküdar University Faculty of Health Sciences Midwifery Department Head Prof. Dr. Güler Cimete spoke about the importance they attach to oath ceremonies. Cimete stated: “Üsküdar University Midwifery Department started admitting students in 2016. This year's students are our third cohort of graduates. Since our first and second cohorts coincided with the pandemic period, we are able to hold an oath ceremony with the graduating students for the first time this year. Oath ceremonies have a history of a hundred years. That's why we consider them important. We have, for now, completed the major and highly responsible parts of our education. Perhaps we will relax for a few days, but continuous change, learning, and teaching will continue throughout life. Since you are part of the health discipline, you will continuously learn, constantly renew your services in line with scientific knowledge, and always strive to provide higher quality service. We have strived for you to be this way for 4 years. I hope we have succeeded. We also tried to instill certain professional ethical values. I hope we have been able to instill the principles of respecting people, being fair, doing no harm, and working for the benefit of people. I hope we have instilled in you the principle of caring not only for their physical problems but also for their emotions and social problems. As far as I can see, I am at ease regarding this. In our field of work, the number of midwives who have undergone undergraduate and postgraduate education like you is small. As our numbers gradually increase and we improve the quality of midwifery care practices, we will both enhance the services we provide to our country in this field and elevate the image of midwives in society. I am proud of all my students so far.” she concluded.
In the oath ceremony, which also drew great interest from families, emotional moments were experienced from time to time.
The ceremony, where all midwifery graduates took their oath in unison, concluded after a group photo session.
