Türk Telekom Advertising and Brand Management Specialist Bora Çitim participated as a guest in the event, which was moderated by Dr. Cihan Becan, a faculty member of the Department of Advertising at the Faculty of Communication. Çitim pointed out that investment and interest in the gaming sector have increased with the pandemic, stating that 3 billion people play games worldwide.

At the event held in classroom GCB 301 of the South Campus C-D Block, Türk Telekom Advertising and Brand Management Specialist Bora Çitim provided information about today's gaming industry.

Bora Çitim: “It is said that 3 billion people play games worldwide”

Bora Çitim talked about the current state of the gaming industry. Çitim said; “The global gaming market totals 180 billion dollars in revenue. There has been an incredible increase with the pandemic. It is said that 3 billion people play games worldwide.”

Türkiye ranks 18th in the world in the gaming market!

Çitim informed the students about the gaming sector in Türkiye; “Türkiye ranks 18th in the world with a revenue exceeding 1 billion dollars, excluding the gaming market itself. There are over 100 gaming companies in Türkiye. These brands are now focusing on the gaming segment. Large restaurant chains like KFC are offering ‘gamer’ menus specifically for players. Brands generally sponsor the gaming side to support youth. Advertisements targeting gamers are being made. These advertising efforts trigger immediate interaction. This audience also does not use traditional media; they operate via Twitch. It is an important factor for brands to be on platforms like YouTube and Twitch to appeal to young people. Additionally, it is necessary to use influencers when advertising, and brands must carefully choose which influencer to work with. For example, the video game brand Fortnite collaborates with clothing brands. For instance, through its collaboration with Air Jordan, it has made its name known among the young audience and generated sales.”

“Turning a hobby into a job is my greatest happiness”

Bora Çitim talked about his career life and experiences. Çitim said; “I started in this sector as a hobby, and then I turned it into a job. Turning a hobby into a job is my greatest happiness. I found myself in the digital world. A communicator should be able to handle all kinds of communication, but I couldn't; I developed myself in the gaming industry. Currently, I am working entirely on gaming at Türk Telekom. Nowadays, brands from completely different sectors are establishing gaming teams.”

“It is necessary to know the language of digital platforms”

Emphasizing the importance of knowing the language of digital platforms, Bora Çitim recommended books and films to students regarding the gaming sector. Çitim said; “It is necessary to know the language of digital platforms. You can check out Blood, Sweat, and Pixels, Reset At, The Billion Dollar Code, The Social Dilemma, The Great Hack.”

At the end of the event, which garnered significant interest from students, a certificate of appreciation was presented to Türk Telekom Advertising and Brand Management Specialist Bora Çitim by Dr. Cihan Becan, a faculty member, for his participation. The event concluded with a group photo.
