Üsküdar Üniversitesi continues its orientation programs for students with the participation of academic and administrative staff. Following Medicine and Dentistry, the orientation programs for the Faculty of Communication and the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences were held. Departments and directorates operating within Üsküdar Üniversitesi provided information to newly registered students before the new academic year.
The opening speeches of the Faculty of Communication and Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences orientation programs, held at the Nermin Tarhan Conference Hall, were delivered by the Dean of the Faculty of Communication Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör and the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences Prof. Dr. Osman Çerezci.
Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör: “Meaningful writing and speaking lead to success”
Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör, Dean of the Faculty of Communication, provided information to new students. Güngör, stating that students should start drawing their roadmaps from today, said; “You should gradually start to shape the future you want in your mind, because studying at the Faculty of Communication is both very enjoyable and exciting, and full of uncertainties. The field of communication has many facets. The course of the world is now built on communication technologies. Therefore, let's guide our learning in line with your interests. Let's apply a program to ourselves where you will develop yourselves in line with those interests. Here, we will provide you with intensive education, but the activation of the knowledge you acquire in classrooms, the implementation of that knowledge, and its transformation into very concrete and meaningful projects for your future are closely related to the roadmap you will create for yourselves. Start dreaming from today. The concrete equivalents of these dreams should be your future projects. Whatever field of communication you are in, thinking, analyzing, applying, questioning, criticizing, writing, and speaking are our business. However, only when writing and speaking are meaningful does it lead to success. And for writing and speaking to be meaningful, you need to be equipped with knowledge. For this, we need to read, gain intellectual depth, and make an effort.”
“To be well-equipped, one needs to start working today”
Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör, stating that university years are important years in which we need to invest in ourselves, said; “University life is different from our previous school life. Here, it is not only important to succeed in courses but also to participate in projects and various activities. Taking part in socio-cultural activities and being involved in them will prepare you for the future. Therefore, every moment of your time should be full. One of my concrete suggestions to you is to definitely learn at least one foreign language, and another concrete suggestion is to please try to use Turkish well. You need to start working on these from today. Also, taking part in socio-cultural activities will prepare you for the future. The more sectors you get to know, the more information you will get about how they operate, and they will also provide you with internship opportunities. We want each of you to do an internship in some way. You will make your decision during this process. By the end of these 4 years, your roadmap will have almost taken shape.”
Prof. Dr. Osman Çerezci: “You need to be sensitive about attendance”
Prof. Dr. Osman Çerezci, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, who offered advice to students, said; “Dear students, I extend my love and respect to all of you, wishing you a successful new academic year. The information activity we will conduct here will be very useful for you. We will provide you with enlightening information. I also want to mention that our university has a unique platform called STIX. On this platform, you can reach your instructors. My advice to you is to first go to your advisor if you have any questions. As the dean's office, we will also find solutions to your problems. I wish all of you success again, hoping that you will be successful in your profession in the coming years after acquiring this knowledge and being well-equipped at our university.”
Tahsin Aksu, Head of Corporate Communications Department, advised students to follow the university's official social media accounts and website, while many other department heads also provided information regarding their units and operations.
Orientation programs will continue throughout the week.
