11th Traditional Bioengineering Days Held

The 11th Bioengineering Days, traditionally organized under the leadership of Üsküdar University's Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Department of Bioengineering, have been held. Speaking at the program, which featured prominent figures in the field as speakers, Üsküdar University Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan stated that biological systems are waiting to be discovered.

Students from Üsküdar University's Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences Bioengineering Department and Üsküdar University Bioengineering Club held the 11th iteration of their traditional Bioengineering Days this year. Prominent figures in the field attended the full-day event held at the Nermin Tarhan Conference Hall.

Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan: “Biological systems are waiting to be discovered”

Delivering the opening speech of the program, Üsküdar University Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan expressed his great pleasure that the Bioengineering Days, successfully continued for 11 years, have been ongoing since the university's establishment. Tarhan stated that the world seems to progress only through the convergence of health sciences, biological sciences, and engineering sciences, noting that both biological systems in humans and in nature are waiting to be discovered.

Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan: “Definitely be part of a project!”

Tarhan mentioned that Üsküdar University organized a computational neuroscience congress for the first time in Turkey; “The field of computational neuroscience is an important area within computational biological systems. This April, we held the first computational neuroscience congress in Turkey. This is also one of the most important fields alongside biotechnology, bioengineering, and biochemistry.” He said.
Emphasizing that students studying in this field should always be open to new experiences, Tarhan advised them to definitely be part of a project during their student years.

Prof. Dr. Osman Çerezci: “The importance of Bioengineering will further increase”

Emphasizing that the 11th Bioengineering Days have evolved to be timeless, more exciting, comprehensive, and scientifically structured each time, Prof. Dr. Osman Çerezci, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, pointed out that Bioengineering will gain even more importance in the coming years. Çerezci; “The direct relevance of the Bioengineering field to life ensures that it will gain much greater importance and acceptance by everyone in the coming years. Today, societies, especially in European and American countries, are conducting research on Mars and other planets. Bioengineering, too, essentially continues to treat the human body as an unknown planet. From this perspective, it is evident how important a function Bioengineering will perform in exploring the unknowns, unexplored points, and discovery points within biological systems, and in serving life. For this reason, I believe that the Bioengineering Days, with the fruitful topics they cover for scientific research, will be of great benefit to our students.” he said.

Following the opening speeches, prominent figures in the field met with the students.

Prof. Dr. Özge Can from Acıbadem University delivered her presentation titled 'Future Molecules: Next Generation Diognostic And Treatment', Prof. Dr. Sevil Yücel from Yıldız Teknik University 'Different Applications of Bioactive Glasses In Bioengineering', Prof. Dr. Yasemin Yüksel Durmaz from Medipol University 'Therapeutic Nanoparticles', Assist. Prof. Dr. Hakan Darıcı from İstinye University '3D Bioprinting', Emine Saraç, Founder of Nanomed Diagnostic, 'Why Entrepreneurship?', Prof. Dr. Elif Damla Arısan from Gebze Teknik University 'Bioentrepreneurship', and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Figen Çalışkan from Eskişehir Osmangazi University 'Scorpion Venom and Their Therapeutic Effects'.
The event concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation and a group photo session.
