Who is Necip Fazıl Kısakürek?
Necip Fazıl Kısakürek was born in Istanbul in 1904. After studying at the French and then American school in Gedikpaşa, Büyükdere Emin Efendi neighborhood school, Büyük Reşid Paşa Numune, Vaniköy Rehber-i İttihad schools, he graduated from Heybeliada Numune School. He enrolled in the Heybeliada Naval School. In 1921, he enrolled in the Philosophy Department of Istanbul Dârülfünun, but before completing his studies there, he went to Paris to study philosophy at Sorbonne University with a state scholarship in 1924.
Upon his return to Turkey, he worked as a civil servant and inspector in some banks in Istanbul and Anatolia. He taught various courses at a French school, Ankara State Conservatory, Istanbul Academy of Fine Arts and Robert College. From 1942 onwards, he left the civil service and started publishing completely.
Necip Fazık Kısakürek's literary personality
Necip Fazıl, one of the great poets who has a unique place in Turkish literature, is a name who has produced successful works in different fields of literature such as poetry, theater and novels.
His first poems were published in Yeni Mecmua in 1922. Since he attracted great attention with his poetry book Kaldırımlar, he was known as the "Kaldırımlar Poet".
His poems were published in Milli Mecmua, Hayat and Varlık magazines. Between 1929 and 1936 he published the magazine Ağaç. Between 1943-1978
He worked as the owner and writer of Büyük Doğu magazine and Büyük Doğu publications. His articles were published in Son Posta, Yeni İstanbul, Babıali'de Sabah, Bugün, Milli Gazete, Hergün and Tercüman newspapers. In addition to his poetry books, he also has works of theater, story, novel, memoir, religion-sufism, essay, joke, political-historical analysis.
Necip Fazık Kısakürek's works
Kısakürek, whose poems were published in books titled "Spider's Web", "Kaldırımlar", "Ben ve Ötesi", "I and Beyond", "Sonsuzluk Kervanı", "Çile", wrote theater works such as "Tohum", "Bir Adam Yaratmak", "Künye", "Yunus Emre", "Kanlı Sarık", "Para", "Mukaddes Emanet", "Sabır Taşı", "Reis Bey", "Nam-ı Diğer Parmaksız Salih", "Ahşap Konak". In addition to poetry and theater plays, Kısakürek also wrote stories and novels, and his stories were published under the titles "Bir Kaç Hikâye" and "Bir Kaç Tahlil".
Necip Fazık Kısakürek's ideas
Necip Fazıl, who gained widespread fame with his political and intellectual writings as well as his artistic work, experienced a great change in his thought and intellectual life in the 1930s and reflected this change in his works.
In 1934, after meeting Abdülhakîm Arvâsî, Kısakürek experienced a great change and publicized his views through the Büyük Doğu magazine, which was published for 512 issues between 1943 and 1978, and led the Büyük Doğu Movement.
Kısakürek passed away on May 25, 1983 in Istanbul. Necip Fazıl Kısakürek Culture and Research Foundation was established by his family in 2015 and Necip Fazıl Awards have been given every December since 2014 with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
