He was born in Istanbul on October 10, 1910. He completed his elementary education at the Emirgan Zükür Numune School (Emirgan Elementary School) between 1916 and 1921. After graduating from Istanbul Boys’ High School, he enrolled in the School of Dentistry, from which he graduated in 1932. In 1933, he began working as an assistant in the prosthodontics department of the School of Dentistry. As a result of his 17-year collaboration with Kantorowicz, Berger gained experience in many branches of dentistry; as an assistant and associate professor, he was not only Kantorowicz’s student but also one of his closest colleagues. At his mentor’s recommendation, he spent the 1936–1937 academic year in Berlin as a visiting assistant. There, he worked alongside distinguished professors such as Hans G. Gerlach and Martin Wabmund. In 1937, with his thesis titled “A Special Method for Investigating the Compression Capacity of the Palatal Mucosa,” he introduced a new method to the field of complete dentures. He was one of the founding members of the Faculty of Dentistry.
