The Industrial Engineering and Computer Engineering departments of Üsküdar University’s Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences have been accredited by MÜDEK for two years. This significant achievement, which reflects the university’s quality standards and academic infrastructure, was celebrated with a ceremony. During the program, administrators, academics, and students came together to share the importance of the accreditation process and discuss future goals in detail. Recognized by the Higher Education Council (YÖK) as a national quality assurance body, MÜDEK evaluates the quality of engineering programs according to national and international standards.

The accreditation success was celebrated at a ceremony held in the Nermin Tarhan Conference Hall of the Main Campus at Üsküdar University. The event was attended by Rector’s Advisor and Quality Director of Üsküdar University Instructor Serdar Karagöz, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences Prof. Osman Çerezci, Head of the Computer Engineering Department Prof. Burhan Pektaş, Head of the Industrial Engineering Department Prof. Mehmet Savsar, MÜDEK Coordinator Asst. Prof. Orkun Kozanoğlu, MÜDEK Accreditation Team Leader Dr. Aydın Kosova, Industrial Engineering Department Representative Eren Gizlier, as well as academics and students.

Instructor Serdar Karagöz: “This certificate is proof of determined teamwork.”

Instructor Serdar Karagöz, Rector’s Advisor and Quality Director of Üsküdar University, emphasized the university’s accreditation success. Karagöz stated: “We have gathered here to celebrate the accreditation success of the two departments of our Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences. This is not just a certificate; it is a testament to our university’s dedication to quality, its strong academic infrastructure, and the determined teamwork that made this possible. As you know, the accreditation process requires perseverance, patience, and collaboration. I would like to thank all our professors, department heads, quality team, and everyone involved for successfully managing this process. At Üsküdar University, we see quality not as a goal but as a long-term journey. This important step we have taken today will serve as a solid foundation for our future accreditation efforts. I believe that together we will achieve even greater successes.”

Prof. Osman Çerezci: “We will improve ourselves and aim for better.”

In his opening speech, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences Prof. Osman Çerezci emphasized the importance of obtaining MÜDEK accreditation. Çerezci said: “The strong positioning of our university’s infrastructure, especially in terms of quality and fundamental knowledge useful for accreditation, has given us confidence that we can achieve this. We have brought this process to a very successful point with our Industrial Engineering professors. Accreditation is a continuous renewal process within our university and our departments. I believe we will continue this renewal process in the best possible way. We have made a truly good start, and we are very happy. Receiving MÜDEK accreditation, and for a period of two years, is a major achievement for us. We will keep improving ourselves, aim higher, and never be passive. There will be a continuous climb upwards, an effort to spread quality, and adapting to changes related to accreditation. By working together, we, as the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences at Üsküdar University, will achieve the best outcomes. We are also very happy to share this certificate and this great news. Moreover, this accreditation acts like a passport that will make you stand out in job applications, or when applying for a master’s or doctoral degree abroad. We are proud to offer you this opportunity.”

Prof. Burhan Pektaş: “Our goal is to make this system permanent.”

Head of the Computer Engineering Department Prof. Burhan Pektaş expressed his pride and happiness: “As the Head of the Computer Engineering Department, I am truly happy and proud. We are very pleased to have reached this happy conclusion after such a long process. Throughout this period, our department put in a great effort, and our professors worked with exceptional dedication. This process has been very instructive for us. We have learned very well how MÜDEK criteria should be applied and prepared. Our next goal is to make this system permanent. We have received the accreditation for two years, but we aim to extend this to five years with the interim report we will submit next July.”

Prof. Mehmet Savsar: “We will use this success to achieve higher-quality education.”

Head of the Industrial Engineering Department Prof. Mehmet Savsar expressed his happiness about the accreditation success: “Through intensive efforts, we achieved this success as the Industrial Engineering and Computer Engineering departments. For us, MÜDEK is a tool for measuring and improving quality. Measuring quality in education is challenging since inputs in education are not homogeneous, the process is complex, and the results are not always clear. However, we strive to raise the quality by using all available methods. The two-year quality accreditation we have received is just the beginning. We will use this success to elevate our university to higher-quality education.”

Asst. Prof. Orkun Kozanoğlu: “We will carry out a development and improvement-oriented process.”

MÜDEK Coordinator and Industrial Engineering Department faculty member Asst. Prof. Orkun Kozanoğlu underlined the opportunities provided by MÜDEK: “Our department within the faculty has achieved a significant success, but our work does not end here. From now on, we will ensure that our other four departments also obtain MÜDEK accreditation. We will face disciplined work, dedication, and challenges, but I believe we will succeed with sincere effort and strong communication. None of our departments or professors should see this process as a burden. MÜDEK offers us the chance to see what we are doing well and where we can improve. From now on, we will follow a process focused on development and improvement. As the faculty’s MÜDEK coordinator, I will stand by all our departments.”

Dr. Aydın Kosova: “Wisdom is realizing what you do not know and pursuing knowledge.”

MÜDEK Accreditation Team Leader Dr. Aydın Kosova described quality as a continuous journey: “We live in a digitized information age. The amount of information humanity has produced in the past twenty years equals all the information produced before that time. In 2010, the knowledge generated in ten years was equivalent to all the knowledge accumulated before that decade. Now, the information generated in two years equals the knowledge accumulated over four thousand years of human history. Wisdom is realizing what you do not know and pursuing knowledge. Learning individuals pursue truth and reality. Students should become learning individuals and adopt a learning organization culture. Üsküdar University is one of only two universities in Europe striving to become a brain hub. This journey is highly meaningful. May your scientific journey continue. I wish you success.”

Eren Gizlier: “MÜDEK accreditation is a strong reference.”

Industrial Engineering Department representative Eren Gizlier also spoke at the event:
“It is a great honor and joy to share with you the pride and happiness of our department’s MÜDEK accreditation today. This success is not just a certificate; it represents quality, trust, continuity, and development. MÜDEK is an independent and reputable organization that certifies the compliance of engineering education with national and international quality standards. This accreditation is also a sign that our department is recognized by the international engineering community. MÜDEK accreditation is a strong reference for graduates when applying for jobs or pursuing master’s degrees. This success is not only about meeting an academic criterion but also fulfilling a promise made to our graduates and students. Let us remember that MÜDEK is not an end, but a beginning.”

The program concluded with the presentation of plaques and a group photo session.
