With the completion of the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) marathon, an exciting period of anticipation has begun for students and their families.

Psychological Counselor Sevgi Toprakyaran emphasized that the time before the results are expected to be announced on July 22 can be used most effectively with proper planning. “Start researching the departments and universities you are interested in now. Use tools like YÖK Atlas and preference robots to review previous years’ base scores, ranking thresholds, and quota information,” she said. Toprakyaran continued, “This process is not just a waiting period, but a time to shape your future. Get to know yourself better, research the professions of your dreams, and clarify your goals.”

Sevgi Toprakyaran, Assistant Director of Educational Institutions and Guidance Services at Üsküdar University, provided a roadmap for candidates during the period leading up to the announcement of YKS results, expected on July 22.

The waiting period can be stressful for many candidates

Toprakyaran reminded that ÖSYM announced the 2025-YKS results will be published on July 22, 2025. “This waiting period can be stressful for many candidates. However, using this time wisely can help both with strong preparation for the preference process and psychological relief. Begin researching the departments and universities you are interested in. Use YÖK Atlas and preference tools to examine last year’s base scores, success rankings, and quotas. Visit universities’ websites to learn about course content, internship opportunities, and employment prospects for graduates,” she said.

Which profession suits you best?

Toprakyaran emphasized the importance of self-awareness in making the right choice: “Review your interests, strengths, and expectations. Tools such as the Career Test offered by Üsküdar University can guide you. Make a list of the departments you are interested in and note which universities offer these programs. This list will be your biggest support during the preference period.”

Research universities and career paths!

While acknowledging the importance of rest after the YKS, Psychological Counselor Toprakyaran also advised candidates not to completely switch into holiday mode. Instead, she recommended setting aside short periods each day for researching universities and career options. “This will help reduce anxiety during the preference period,” she added.

This is your time to shape your future

Toprakyaran also advised candidates to review the 2024 Higher Education Programs and Quotas Guide, especially to check the special conditions required for certain departments. “Some programs may require medical reports, talent exams, or specific ranking thresholds. This process is not just a waiting period; it is a time to shape your future. Get to know yourself better, research your dream professions, and define your goals. Once the 2025 Higher Education Programs and Quotas Guide is published, candidates will continue to receive the most accurate support.”
